Uncertain Work Environment

Pros

Excellent work-life balance, including unlimited sick and personal time. My personal manager is very understanding about family obligations and is very flexible.

Cons

Business is doing poorly and upper management is attempting to cut costs by laying off employees frequently. Consistent turnover at the upper management level. No real job security offered. Raises have become as low as 1% yearly due to poor business performance, causing salaries to be below the average for comparable positions elsewhere.

Good benefits, awful management

Pros

Great benefits & co-workers, great place to get in shape if you are a fitness buff or wanting to learn about getting fit, there's a small gym at the headquarters in Middlebury, and a great cafeteria. They have flexible hours, so if you have kids, you can leave early.

Cons

There is so much red tape in the way of actually getting things done (it mirrors the political gridlock in Washington). Those in upper management positions often seem to completely misunderstand how to engage with customers, and seem to be far less in touch with technology than they should be. They would prefer to spend money hiring outside agencies than developing internal talent. They want to continue doing the things that have or haven't worked for them in the past, instead of trying to be creative and fresh.

Pros

Casual dress and summer hours.

Cons

Upper management doesn't have insight to the day to day workings of the company. Good work goes unnoticed and unappreciated. No work/life balance.

Pros

Coworkers (some of them) Bonus Opportunities (only for senior management titles and above) Casual Dress Summer Hours

Cons

For some roles, the pay is not equal to the tasks assigned. If you are looking for a promotion or any type of recognition you have to be marked as one of the "favorites." Upper management has NO IDEA the amount of time, energy, and expertise it takes to keep parts of the business operational and successful. Departments constantly fight with each other and play the "blame game." Directors and VP's included. Tons of deflection. Nobody wants to take responsibility. You can blatantly voice your concerns to your superior about the behavior of your coworkers being toxic and unethical and provide examples and say multiple times "I feel uncomfortable" and NOTHING will come from it because that coworker is your superior's "favorite." If management does try to address these issues they will do so in the form of pizza parties or happy hours. It's never communication and accountability. The brand is stuck in the dark ages. Failing to conduct any market research or consumer insights about products and simply designing watches based on "good feelings" or personal preference from a select group of people. Upper management then expects all products to be a raging success and sell out each and every time and is absolutely furious when it does not happen and looks to the teams to figure out why the products are not selling when it's blatantly obvious it's from little consumer research, poor branding, and a packed product launch schedule.

No room for growth

Pros

A couple of good people, summer fridays (when you can actually use them)

Cons

Honestly there are so many cons to working at this company. All of upper management has been there much too long for anything to happen, they preach about innovating and change but they are the roadblocks stopping it at every turn. They think they know best but these are the same people that have been keeping it stagnant for years. The pay is terrible. They justify this by saying they’re out of middlebury and not Hartford or Fairfield county so they don’t need to pay those types of salaries. Newsflash, your employees live in these areas and you didn’t even provide a cost of living wage increase for at least 3 years. Also, only senior managers and above are eligible for bonuses. HR is also a complete joke at this organization. There is maybe only one of them that truly cares about what you have to say and wants to hear you out but nothing ever gets done because her boss is too busy gossiping or trying to be fake bffs with everyone. It is by far the most unprofessional work environment I have ever been in. They allow inappropriate actions continue to happen because they don’t have the balls to take action. There is absolutely no feeling of support coming from this company, you pretty much feel ok your own. The benefits are also not good. Insurance is extremely poor unless you opt for the highest plan and then its about average. Summer fridays are nice but some managers will still schedule meetings during those hours or make it seem like you need to ask permission to use them when its a company wide initiative. Its almost like RAs in college where they think serving stale popcorn and throwing on a crappy movie from the 80s will make up for your poor salary, lack of room for growth, and inability to provide adequate resources for you to perform your job (they did actually do this activity). It is truly an overall toxic environment at this company. People are promoted when all they do is online shop, talk about not doing their work, and have no idea what is going on with the business all because they’re bffs with someone in the higher ups. You are not rewarded for your work at Timex, others are and in turn you just receive more of the workload they decide they don’t want to do. This company takes advantage of every (actual) capable employee but only rewards the ones that bring nothing to the table.
