Pros

The culture is amazing! The values of the organization are evident in the day to day operations. Strong Teamwork - even the CEO helps when there is a big task to complete. Work Life Balance - the schedules are flexible and take into account that we are human and have lives outside the workplace. Respect for All and Inclusive - many different beliefs, backgrounds and cultures make up the staff and all individuals are equal. Appreciation - management shows appreciation for the staff on a consistent basis. Small things like hot chocolate on a snowy day and ice cream on a hot one go a long way! Room for growth - How far you go with The Learning Lamp is up to you! Management mentors and supports while simultaneously listening to your fresh thoughts and ideas. They even offer tuition assistance and apprenticeship programs for people in education. You can get your degree while working! Hard work is valued - I have worked in many places where you give 100% and management wants to know why you didn't give 110%. There always seems to be something you could have done better or should do different next time. At The Learning Lamp your work is valued. They see the 100% you are giving and say "Great Job - Keep Going!"

Cons

The only downside is that pay-rates are lower than what you find in a "for profit" organization. Being passionate about the mission of The Learning Lamp and the development opportunities that are available help make up for the lower pay. scale.

Pros

I worked there for almost a year. I earned enough to pay the bills plus a little extra. Teaching the younger kids was fun and I felt like I was making a difference some days.

Cons

Most days I was only there to "babysit." I sat at a desk with my only task being to make sure the kids finished busy work. I would go home feeling unfulfilled. I also did not receive the training they were required to give me even after I requested a training session as I was having trouble. The most they did to train me was email me "tips" like "Convince students to clean the classroom by telling them one piece of trash is the 'prize trash' and if they throw the special 'prize trash' away they will receive a reward." Not exactly the help I was hoping for.

Pros

Expansive organization that attempts to be a one-stop-shop for districts. Many different opportunities spread throughout Western PA. Several different types of programs to be involved.

Cons

I was lied to my face by superiors and thrown under the bus. These are "faux" educators that are more concerned with the company's bottom line than really reaching out and servicing the advancement of a child's academic and personal growth. There is a revolving door where good people stay a short while snakes-in-the-grass climb their ladder.
