Pros

- Experience to kickstart career in IT. ( but think twice, they will exploit you for minimum salary and you will do the same, that 1+ year employees do) - Nice team buddies - Laid back atmosphere - Snacks at the office

Cons

- All the negative comments here are 100% true. I guess the 5* ratings are from administration, trying to convince that everything is alright. - Administration and HR department thinks that they are upper class. They have special benefits, salary rises, they are partying every Thursday at the office, getting drunk on booze and acting very unprofessional - engineers are not welcomed there. - They should hire new HR department, since the decisions they are making are very questionable and your faith in the company is based how "good" friends you are with HR. - They are saying that it is tough time for the company, silently firing employees, but still hiring new interns, since they are "cheaper". Good employees with experience are leaving and searching for better jobs. - Will not comment how bad the internal courses are, how you do not have life outside the work and how bad the remuneration system is, there is a lot of comments about this already.

Hi! As we care a lot about the feedback received, we would like to offer the company management's perspective and a deeper look into the mentioned aspects of working at TestDevLab: - Thank you for some of the mentioned pros of your review, we do try to create a laid-back atmosphere in which anyone can showcase their initiative, bring new ideas to the table, and discuss any matters with the management of the company. - We are also happy and proud to have provided hundreds of people with internships and entry-level positions in the company to kickstart their careers in IT, this is something that most employers do not do or at least not as vastly as us. On top of that, internships are oftentimes unpaid, whereas we ensure that the minimum wage in each country where we operate is covered. After the internship is successfully completed (in most cases after 3 months of the internship and getting relevant certification), each and every engineer can continue growing their skills and salary and are offered support in these matters. This aspect is commonly defined, visible and explained internally on a regular basis to set clear expectations. Of course, taking the first career steps in IT is not easy and comes with a fair share of learning, hard work and dedication. That being said, we treat interns as part of our team and entrust them to work on challenging projects whilst learning and getting actual practical experience. - At TestDevLab, we believe in informal communication and team bonding, which can happen in various ways. One of the ways is through company-sponsored teambuilding activities which we encourage employees to use. Another way is to organise social gatherings based on employees' own initiative. These gatherings can also be organised onsite with the management's approval and are a great way for anyone to join and socialise after working hours. Some teams use this possibility less often, some more often, but generally, it is not limited to any group of employees. - All of the remuneration decisions made are as objective and fair as possible. To ensure that, we take into account both the team's and client's feedback as well as include team managers in the discussion. HR and generally all other administration roles are also included in the remuneration system with defined goals, feedback and individual discussions taking place. It is also important to note that on average, just like in other companies, in TestDevLab salaries for administrative roles are lower paid than for engineering roles based on average standards defined by the industry for each role. - Similarly to most other IT companies, the HR department or anyone else from the administration is not in the capacity to make business decisions, decide the company's faith or get special treatment, bonuses or any other benefits. Moreso, HR always acts in cooperation with the company's management and all parties can respond and explain their decision-making. - As the whole of the IT industry, we are experiencing turbulent economic times at the moment which also impact the way we conduct business. So far we have been transparent with our employees on the financial situation, showcasing every month in a company-wide call how it is going and what steps are being taken to mitigate it. Right from the beginning of major tech companies announcing layoffs, we informed all employees that we would re-evaluate performance and if it fell below average expectations, part ways with respective employees - no “silent firings” have been done. At the same time, we were clear to stop our activities of hiring juniors and entry-level specialists at the company and have not done so since then. To provide concrete data, we hired 2 interns at the beginning of 2023 and currently interns make up less than 1% of our workforce. At the same time, we laid off approximately 4% of our workforce since the announced performance re-evaluations in November 2022. - TDL School courses are a way through which we create added value as an employer and giving everyone working in IT a chance to learn and explore various technologies is something we are very proud of. At the same time, there are online resources and various types of certification that employees can also choose to complete in order to showcase their skills, meaning that TDL School courses are never a mandatory requirement, it's just a helpful means through which to gain new knowledge and skills, but it is not the only one that we offer. Moreso, if the employee decides to learn on their own tempo, they can also choose to do that, completing an internally prepared technical task. Additionally, we collect feedback after each course in order to improve the quality of TDL School. We are also sad to see such reviews being written, especially as none of HR has any capacity to act in the way described by you, unanimously deciding to fire someone based on their feedback, nor has ever done so. We have always been open for conversations and can provide further context if needed in individual conversations - so please reach out if you deem it necessary - we have various means through which employees can engage in feedback conversations.

Pros

If you're someone who's young and straight out of university (or are graduating soon), this is a great place to find your footing as a QA professional. There are a lot of learning opportunities (of varying quality, but more on that in the 'cons' section) provided by the company. It can be very intense in the beginning, but if you manage to pull through, you get into some really cool projects as well as a solid experience to put on your CV.

Cons

The expectations that are put on employees can be unrealistic, especially if you factor in the often ridiculous pay you get for working yourself to the point of burning out. Also, the work-life balance ir virtually non-existant. I even heard one of the CEOs say on multiple occasions that he "does not believe in a work-life balance in the IT industry", which looking back was a MAJOR red flag. You see experienced engineers quitting the company and clueless interns being hired in their place. Sure, it's cool that they give young, inexperienced people a chance, but it can get very frustrating when you have a bunch of interns on a fairly complex project, when you actually need people who know what they're doing. If you want to get a raise, you have to complete at least 70% of the bi-annual goals that are set for you by management. But there's a catch - the goals mostly consist of things you're supposed to do outside of your working hours, while your actual performance and involvement aren't factored in at all. Also, even if you complete the whole 100%, the raise is not guaranteed and the possible reasons for it are unclear to say the least. It's very difficult to really get ahead, unless you're BFFs or smoking buddies with upper management. There's a very highschool-esque vibe about it. Like, there's this crowd of "cool" kids, that you have to become friends with to be able to enjoy the perks of being there. Yeah, they can be mean, but they do offer something in return. However, I've noticed that once people do get inside of the in-crowd at TDL, it somehow brings out the worst in them. There's a lot of chaos within just about every aspect of the company. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. Especially when it comes to HR, which, more often than not, are simply not doing their job all too well and sometimes even being full on disrespectful and self-absorbed mean girls. There's a lot of parties and teambulding events, which, I'll admit can be fun, but it's a kind of sad that they almost always alcohol-focused and a lot of people get blackout drunk. Sure that might be appealing to younger people, but if you're someone who has other priorities in life (like a family, for example) or simply are not much of a partier/drinker, it can make you feel left out. You can expect quite a bit of rude/inappropriate jokes, childish tantrums, impulsive decisions and overall obnoxious behaviour from people in higher-up positions. Regardless I still do have tons of respect for both of the CEOs. They've managed successfully run and grow the company for all these years, so obviously they're doing something right. However, I also think that the work environment at TDL is very unhealthy.

Pros

Can be a starting step into IT (6-12 months max)

Cons

- Terrible remuneration system with often unrealistic goals that can only be worked towards in the employee free time - Unhealthy work relationship, where the employees are expected to put the company above their personal life - Elitist management/HR, that doesn't hide that they think they are above the rest of the employees - Actual contribution to the company is overlooked in favour of the bi-annual goals - Most employees can expect no salary raise even with perfectly completed goals, with questionable financial decisions from the administration playing a big part - Unprofessional HR team - Management gaslighting employees about the situation within the company - One of the CEOs is often rude - Teambuilding event rules get more and more convoluted to make employees refrain from creating them at all - HR team doesn't respect employees and then is surprised that the employees avoid communicating with them - Tries to attract people with free courses, which are often led by inexperienced lecturers that are just random employees that have it in their goals

Hello! While we are sorry to hear about your negative experience with us, we appreciate your review. Thank you! We have a clear goal system in place and salary levels that are transparent for all employees. Everybody has a chance to grow and also increase their compensation for the work they’ve done if the current business environment allows it. We want to emphasize that this is a two-way conversation between the employee and the management where both parties agree on a set of goals that need to be reached in order to get a step up in their career path. If for example, the workload in the project increases, employees can adjust their goals so they don’t become “unrealistic”. Management is there to accommodate these changes and help every employee to advance within the company. But as you know, we are in the process of improving our goal system to make it more beneficial for the career growth of our employees. Also, employees can contact management directly if they feel that they can’t manage their work/life balance or goals need to change. There are no cases when we reject conversations to reach an agreement for such matters. We have multiple regular company-wide activities like internal newsletters and live all-hands meetings where we share the latest company information. During these calls, we also answer all employee questions. Additionally, w offer a possibility to send in questions/feedback in an anonymous form. We try to apply the same teambuilding rules to all employees within the company. They change based on various factors, team changes and sizes, financial situation, etc. Still, we always strive to explain the rules clearly and are open to discussing and adjusting the process to individual needs. We envision teambuilding as an activity that takes place within one team/project/relevant work group to strengthen relationships within the team and create a more collaborative environment. Continuous learning and self-improvement are a must in IT and this is why we offer various internal and external IT courses that help our employees gain new knowledge. We are improving internal courses based on the feedback from participants after each course. This means that your feedback matters even if you didn’t like your course led by some of your colleagues - we are open to listening to your concerns. Although it seems like your time at TestDevLab ended on a negative note, we want to say thank you for your feedback that we will use to improve working conditions for your now ex-colleagues. We have always been open to improvements and are working to create an environment where employees feel free to bring up their concerns and share feedback with the management and administration. Best regards, TestDevLab management
