Going Down Fast

Pros

- Local office employees look out for one another. - Good health and related benefits. - WFH flexible environment. - Relatively hands-off locally allowing for lower stress environments that would otherwise be caused by micromanaging.

Cons

- Norway (HQ) calls all the shots and they're doing everything possible to make sure morale is very low everywhere outside of Norway. - HQ is rather condescending and off-putting when it comes to addressing concerns from local offices. - Salaries are not reflective of cost of living inflation nor actual performance. - HQ will find any way possible to shave dollars from employees to save every little bit at EOY bottom line. - Company is not open to investing in development that would lead to more sales and better products. Instead they expect sales, CST, operations, IT, and R&D to all pick up the slack to ensure clients don't leave which only delays the inevitable of a massive client exodus. - Allowing HQ to have all decision control for pretty much everything leads to incredibly low morale which then leads to lower quality of work as they employee base is unhappy.

Pros

Benefits, Lots of Vacation Days, Remote Work.

Cons

Narcassitic Operations and CST management who lack organization and communication skills. Lots of harrasers and bullies within management protected if you are favored or a white man. Management lacks innovation towards employee relations.

good but not great

Pros

Good benefits and nice work schedule, working 4 days a week with some periods of unlimited over-time. WFH is a great plus.

Cons

Before writing this I think it's fair to look in the mirror and judge your own accountability. So I kept this well in mind. Overall I would rate working at SG a 6 on a scale of 1-10. This mainly due to management. If you're liked, you have it made. If not, harmony is suffered and you will feel like you have a target on your back. Management clearly has their 'favorites' which is unfortunate. You can do tremendous good for this company, but if you make even the slightest mistake, you will hear about it. There is absolutely NO positive feedback which is very unfortunate. The pay is below average. Raises are minimal for all levels of experience. Generally 1-3% which is low for the Bay Area . Annual bonuses used to be common place, but not for the last few years even while the company has strong profits margins. If you move from the BA to an out-of-state location, you are forced to take a pay cut by as much as 15% (while still doing the same work) which is unfair as you had been under-paid for quite some time if you worked in the Bay Area. I notice also that experienced workers (beyond 15 years) are gradually phased out in order to cut costs. This likely due to a new office opening in the Philippines which is now becoming well staffed. Not a lot of appreciation for loyal employees. There is not a lot of room for personal growth either and many young employees leave after 2-3 years. Overall, I would recommend working for StormGeo since work/life balance and benefits are good, but watch your back as there are workers that like to report even the smallest errors/oversights. If you aspire personal growth and advancement, this is not a place for you. If you want to sit back, collect a pay check and get annual pay increases of 1-3%, then fine. Senior management needs to have developers develop quicker to avoid employees having to do 'work-arounds' in day-to-day operations that can easily lead to errors (for which you are considered accountable.
