Pros

"Flexible" hours, mostly nice coworkers, work from home opportunity. If you’re looking to chill, not use your brain (actually frowned upon if you provide any valuable contribution) and follow whatever management says, look no further.

Cons

- Regardless of how it is put, SpotHopper makes Squarespace equivalent sites (maybe worse) for restaurants and bars and "automates" social media. There's no AI involved or any real data analysis. - Even if you crush quota, you'll be making closer to the bottom end of the compensation. - Management is a mess, no one has any sales experience other than using WikiHow - Legal team has no real credentials and contracts written hold no value. Occasionally charges clients wrong so get excited for a client to yell at you for billing them for the whole year instead of by month. - You get ~.25% "equity" per year for hitting ALL of your quota goals for the year. Even if you did, enjoy .25% of a LLC worth $0! - Very high churn/unsatisfied client rate. Many fight with their cc companies to cancel and Spothopper almost always loses which means clawback for you. - No promotions! - Everyone receives a different stipend amount with no thought into how much their cities' cost of livings are. Hint: it's not very much and supposed to cover medical/dental insurance, travel to clients, parking, cellphone, home office needs, and more. - No culture or values - never meet up with any of your coworkers! - If you crush your goals for the month, congrats you get a trip to a random city in the US to sell! - Office got moved from Brooklyn to Wisconsin so I think that speaks for itself.

Hi former DC rep and thanks for leaving a review! We’re honestly appreciative of your feedback and strive to ensure that our work environment is the best it can possibly be. Unfortunately we do also feel the need to fact check a few of the things in this review to not mislead other employees and applicants: -You were in fact employed for 7 months not over 1 year -We do not agree at the AE role is a good fit for those who are “Looking to chill”. It’s a role that requires hard work and this attitude is perhaps one reason why you were not successful in this role. -Our websites are custom designed by a team of web designers, developers and professional photographers and videographers. Squarespace is a great do it yourself product but does not offer any of this. -Our algorithms use reinforcement learning based AI to select the optimal website layouts, post times and more to maximize revenue for our customers. It’s very cool and drives an extra 10-20% in revenue! -We don’t like to disclose our valuation, but we are more than doubling every year and have been honored to earn millions in annual revenue from our customers. -Yes you need to hit quota and stay with the company for over a year to earn ownership in the company. We reward our top performers! -Our monthly retention rate is 99%. In fact just about all of the sales you did make are still with us today and we do want to thank you for this! -Actually 4 of our sales reps were promoted last month alone! You do need to hit quota to get promoted however, which is why you unfortunately were not eligible. -We’re very proud of Milwaukee and it has been the best city by far to recruit and build our BDR team. The cost and applicant availability in New York was no match for MKE (Go Bucks!)

Pros

- Flexible work schedule - Ok starter job to get experience on your resume, mostly in witnessing failures or bad practices which can be a fantastic learning experience and why a lot of people get involved in startups

Cons

- Micro management from an inexperienced manager - You're selling a basic product that is not unique. In house website templates that are repurposed for each customer and the use of open Facebook and Twitter APIs to create reoccurring posts on those social channels. Everything else is done manually so it's not much of a tech startup. The claim of using AI to optimize everything is a big stretch on the truth as are other marketing/sales related claims which are often based on statistically insignificant data. - Poor compensation and no benefits are offered - Very vague role responsibilities - there is limited off shore resources to handle onboarding and customer service so sales reps often need to deal with issues out of fear of losing their commissions

Hello again former DC rep! We’re not sure why you felt the need to write another review, but we will take this further feedback seriously. But we do want to inform those reading that this is in fact a second fraudulent review from the same employee as the first 1 star review. Also we do feel the need to fact check this one as well: -Again, you worked for SpotHopper for 7 months just to be clear not over 1 year. -We do not agree with the “flexible” comment. Just because our employees work remotely does not mean their schedules are flexible and we do expect you to work a standard 9-5 and occasionally beyond that. For those looking for a flexible or low effort position like yourself, SpotHopper is not a good fit. -It’s true! Niko is a first time founder and manager and he has a lot to learn! We’ve been incredibly grateful to learn what we have so far and to be growing at 100% year over year, but we will strive to learn more and get even better! -Your feedback around micromanagement is a bit unclear. You are now saying you were micro managed when before you claimed to not be managed at all and to have a “chill” job? -Please elaborate below so we can have a more accurate picture of the complaint. -Again, our algorithms use reinforcement learning based AI to select the optimal website layouts, post times and more to maximize revenue for our customers. It’s very cool and drives an extra 10-20% in revenue! -Yes we do use templates to start each website build before they are custom designed. In fact every web developer in the world does this! Perhaps you can learn more about web development if interested! -Yes we do use APIs to schedule posts -We actually do offer benefits! Both healthcare, unlimited time off and more! -The compensation is detailed in the job listings. I suppose “poor compensation” is relative, but if you don’t make any sales, it’s true you will not earn any commission. -Our onboarding team is based in Milwaukee and are ongoing tech support in Europe. -The responsibilities of the role are not vague - they are simply to hit your quota! Unfortunately in DC you sold $0 in your last month at SpotHopper. -We’ve never lied about equity but perhaps there was confusion and for that we apologize. Yes you need to hit quota to earn ownership in the company. We reward our top performers! -In terms of investing in employees, we now have a rather large sales team of almost 20, and I’m happy to say that almost every hire has worked out and no reps have been let go or left in almost a year!

Pros

✅️ Unlimited PTO ✅️ Remote work option ✅️ Apart from C Suite, see more below, a really decent and lovely group of people.

Cons

❎️ Bullying CEO ❎️ Bullying President ❎️ Culture of gaslighting from C suite ❎️ Criticism from leadership towards colleagues at every turn - without direction or suggestions to improve ❎️ Total absence of training ❎️ Failure to evaluate and communicate true state of company ❎️ Public criticism of colleagues in meetings, email chains, and company-wide documents ❎️ Overly rapid development of products that continue to fail, but are pushed along due to a pathological obsession from leadership to keep inventing... without any sort of prep ❎️ Lack of clear communication on what these products do - teams are left to guess what's up, and when they don't know or ask... gaslighting and bullying. Which means nobody ever asks important questions to push the needle along, the company simply stagnated around the father son ego duo at the top (aka "CEO" and President) ❎️ CEO wrote a highly disturbing book on AI and the seemingly pointless nature of humanity, and ultimately, why humans are in reality a total waste of space. ❎️ Bombarding customers with marketing spam multiple times a week... every week... using clickbait subject lines just to open the thing. ❎️ Convoluted email content dictated by C Suite that customers turned off. The Copywriting department must be an awful experience - I don't know how they managed to still be creative, break records, and keep churning out that volume of content under such oppressive conditions. Kudos to them. ❎️ Bullying from C Suite. It needs to be said twice.
