Biggest waste of an opportunity

Pros

- Employee base genuinely motivated by the mission to help small businesses - Have hired some great executives (though many have left) - Growing and raising money (despite underperforming versus competitors) - Nice office, great views - Pizza credit

Cons

- CEO treats employees like are dispensable and the company doesn't need them. Likes to single people out and embarrass them in group meetings. He has said to multiple people if they don't like the way they are being treated, they can leave (and many do). - Dishonest. Always trying to make things up or sell things better instead of building a product that customers actually want. Don't do what is best for our customers. - So much turnover, people leave all the time and so much work / knowledge gets lost - CEO is very defensive / immature and lashes out at anyone who challenges any of his ideas. He pretends to invite people to give feedback, and then targets people who disagree with him. Be careful - constantly changing priorities, useless planning exercises and fire drills. It feels totally disorganized and is stressful as a result

Pros

• Meaningful corporate mission. Helping small businesses is cool. • Great benefits (not just the free pizza - the health and wellness benefits are great too). • You get to work with some smart people.

Cons

• Changes their business strategy on a dime. One month you're going after specific markets, another month you're going after different ones, another month you're focused on B2C, another you're just focused on B2B. The company doesn't seem to have enough faith in its approach so changes its mind regularly on what will work. • After years in the business, still has no clear idea of how to engage efficiently with pizzeria owners. • Laid off a really large group of NY-based employees, during the height of COVID-19, then announced a Series C funding round just a few weeks later. They are now re-hiring for a number of those roles that they laid off, suggesting those layoffs may have been to make improvements on the bottom line in order to attract that investment. This is bad/shady at the best of times, but completely heartless during a pandemic when unemployment is at an all-time high. • The CEO is extremely proud, stubborn, and defensive. When challenged about problems in the business, such as cultural issues, layoffs, and misalignment on strategy, he is known to be defensive and question people's loyalty or suitability for the company. • Hired a number of C-suite folks who butted heads with trusted leaders and employees in the business as they came in and wanted to do things their way. • Has a lot of big ideas but is often unwilling to invest the necessary $$$ in executing against them.

Going downhill fast

Pros

- Great people wanting to do great things - Free pizza - Culture is still great but only in pockets - Wanting to do good for SMBs

Cons

- The CEO is constantly changing strategy and leadership team. The full C suite changes every 18/24 months without fail - The CFO has never managed a large org and has very little people empathy - The board do not hold the CEO accountable - The lack of a Chief People Officer really hurts the company
