Pros

A lot of exposure to patients with mental illness and opportunities to help provide treatment.

Cons

Unsafe for staff and patients due to inadequate numbers of staff. Constantly run short staffed every shift and told there is nothing they can do about it. Staff are pulled all over the hospital to units they’ve never worked or been trained on. Brand new nurses are not adequately trained and management takes them off of orientation early and forces them to run charge on the unit. A high percentage of staff either quit before orientation is complete or soon after. Upper level management does nothing to improve morale, staff retention or staffing numbers. There are a lot of staff injuries and when codes for assistance are called there isn’t an adequate number of staff to respond. Instead of decreasing patient numbers they have added additional beds to single patient rooms. This hospital was advertised as an all single bed unit when built but is no longer the case. There are cameras in the halls and management watches them constantly to pick apart everything staff does.

Pros

Nice facilities in most locations. Many enormously dedicated colleagues Winter holiday bonuses Tuition reimbursement (for study related to your present position)

Cons

These apply only to school-based staff: Allowed only 5 personal / sick days each year -- and management acts like this is doing you a generous favor! Longevity not valued: new hires with same credentials will be paid more than you. No committee structure to schools. Teachers kept "professionally isolated." Admin concerned with school census over quality. High turn-over in staff (not good for students w/ special needs) If you're injured by a student, Workers' Comp (which has offices on-site at SP Towson HQ?) may resemble the Spanish Inquisition. Administrators may not be terribly supportive, either. Directors are happy to tell staff how easily they can be replaced.

Run! Racist, Toxic, Arrogant, Extremely Hierarchical

Pros

Nothing positive. Insular groupthink and hierarchy has created a dysfunctional, bleak work environment clogged with redundancy, meaningless circular process development and planning.

Cons

Highly racist, dysfunctional and in-group/ out-group organization with an Executive committee comprised of non-innovators who are uninformed about their landscape for business development in profoundly fundamental ways. So many individuals in leadership treated me like I was a brown worker on their plantation. People who made checklists for work with minimal knowledge or relevant skill were placed over me after complaining and backstabbing me because they wanted the job. The place is an absolute $#!t show. I’ve worked in bad places but those places seemed like spas after working there. If you’re black, run! If you have energy, creativity, vision, run! This place is really awful.
