Pros

- Can be as remote as you like. Ideally, they want you in three days per week if you live nearby, or once per month if you live more than 50 miles away - TGIF - The last Friday of every month is a half day - Subsidised travel to the Cambridge office and accommodation nearby - Free drinks and snacks in the office - Regular social events and quarterly sparks - Pay is not bad - Stock options - Smart and friendly coworkers

Cons

- Very few options for career progression - No bonuses. Annual pay rises are mediocre - They may move you around different teams as they like without consulting you and expect you to just go along with it - Very understaffed for their current goals and workload. End of year often gets very crunchy with lots of overtime - Made me redundant based on internal competency results from the previous year without any chance for a reassessment - Vague performance goals and moving the goalposts

Pros

- The people are great and there's plenty of scope to learn from one another and socialise. - The benefits Gym membership, Friday lunches (when in the office) to get to know people in different teams. - They look after employees with relocation allowance and employee support schemes. - Collaboration with peers is often enjoyable.

Cons

- Management is confused and the company is becoming top heavy. Decisions are often passed down from on high without visibility to the true reasoning (management say they are working on this but I'm yet to see change) - People are often moved from project to project with little to no warning (there's a history of this happening while people are on holiday). - Communication between management and ICs is confused. - Opinions are said to be welcomed and considered but it often seems that disagreement with proposals is not accepted.

Pros

• Some fantastic employees. • Opportunities to learn about SotA probabilistic modelling/Bayesian optimisation approaches

Cons

• Management seem to keep making the same mistakes, ignoring feedback from employees, and then when things fail they will say that the problems were unforeseeable. • There's been two sets of redundancies in a 7 month period. During this, management has tended to be unaffected, or have received title bumps. • Low morale had led to a major brain drain of the best talent at the company. The company is around half the size that it was a year prior, and continues to shrink. • Constant restructures, imposed top-down. • Little avenue for growth. While this isn't unusual for small companies, Secondmind had used "number of promotions" as a metric when deciding who to make redundant, ignoring the fact that it's easy to get in a position where you cannot be promoted unless your boss quits.
