Pros

I can't think of a pro at all-except maybe that it's in Charlottsville and that's a great location. (but the actual location is awful)

Cons

Where to begin-management without education or experience, interoffice romance that taints upper level decisions, dismissals, pathetic attempt at HR. Really the most unprofessional environment I've ever seen. Hires are all over the place-but 90% are categorically unqualified, but hired in due to personal relationships. Very "clique" based culture which is unsettling. Many comments made about female staff physical attributes-which has been really disgusting. Last thing I needed was to get slapped with a suit being a part of this kind of management. Regular berating of staff in the open, making it extremely awkward for cube dwellers to move forward with their day once there was a scene. Leadership has no leadership skills, no presence and no real expertise in anything.

Lead by greed and incompetence

Pros

Close to my house. Flexible working environment.

Cons

This company has no business focus. Its driven by desperation and greed, which has generally resulted in a lot of wasted effort and money writing contract proposals for work the company has no experience doing. Millions have been spent on maintaining a HubZone status that has resulted in exactly one contract. Money that would have been better spent investing in new products or markets. Each quarter is a financial surprise because of a lack of business acumen on the part of senior management. The culture is poisoned by suspicion and a total lack of trust and communication between the President of the company and those who do the work. Nearly every Senior Director has his door closed most of the day. A behavior learned and copied from the President, since this is a rather recent habit. Strategic vision is presented as a dollar figure for revenue (wishes) rather than a roadmap that lays out the future as a series of realistic milestones with a plan to achieve those milestones. Very little effort is made to involve lower level employees (hired for their HubZone stats) in meaningful projects. If you are a female, you'll never be promoted to a leadership position. It's a 1950's culture toward women. Another comment mentioned inappropriate relationships - That's being polite. It has lead to poor management decisions that were colored by personal relationships and unwarranted disciplinary action driven by jealousy. I doubt this company will survive more than a year. It's gone from close to 120 employees two years ago to something closer to 65. The reputation of this company within the industry is terrible; which makes finding competitive team mates for contract proposals extremely difficult. Because HubZone employees are not considered for meaningful work that could generate revenue, they instead contribute to a bloated overhead. Further exacerbating the problem of finding new contracts. Do not work for this company if you value your career. If they have a contract you're interested in, find out who the prime is and see if you can work for them instead. It's not worth the personal aggrivation and trauma of having to go into a hostile work environment each day. You can do much better.

Pros

Flexible hours. Learned about finer details of government contracting. Some interesting contract opportunities.

Cons

The O'Jays have a very famous song called "For the Love of Money" and is a proper theme song to apply. Recent reviews are very true and experiences are just as written. Generating profit is the goal of all businesses but when it comes to mapping that pathway, it is seen as a short path and not a road with turns and obstacles. There is also no support to sustain efforts and the qualify and capture phase is broken because the identify phase is misguided from the very top of the pyramid. Career-minded women need not consider. Advancement in your career might just be the least of your concerns. With "culture" being a corporate buzz word, culture is only an effort for outside optics. The optics from the inside matter not.
