Pros

- Some people are very helpful and collaborative - Benefits have expanded - Compensation is competitive - Stock has done very well

Cons

- Above-average level of politics (favoritism, obstruction, showmanship, pandering) within management - Managers don't grow employees, just a pass-through for blame and responsibility - Managers, ICs have little power to make decisions, decisions are made from VP/exec level with little transparency - Some with long tenure refuse to go to meetings, refuse to answer questions, and stall work from being done - Exec leadership is a very closed group that is an echo chamber for the CEO - Products are figure-it-out-yourself with no specs or documentation - Competitiveness between teams means others are blocked from making progress on their own deliverables - Innovation is choked due to continuous disagreement on a path forward - Some code has no owners and require you to reverse engineer the code to learn it's function - Weird model where if the owning team doesn't have time to work on something, engineers must make the changes themselves in code they don't know and own that piece going forward - Some teams hire exclusively from FAANG companies - Performance reviews are just a single number without much substantiation - "Can I have a beer with this person?" was a question used by managers to decide on candidates - VP review of interview candidates cause numerous candidates with all "yes" feedback to be thrown out - They talk about diversity then continue to hire non-diverse senior and executive leadership - Leadership doubled down on return to office and then at the last second turned around due to internal protest

Pros

Much opportunity to build skills because everything is a fire to be put out. Good pay

Cons

This company is a chaotic mess. There is NO leadership at this company. NONE. Typical silicon valley startup. Junior employees are promoted to manage and "lead" teams because they have technical skills, not leadership skills. They hired me and did NOTHING to onboard me. I was left drowning. Stakeholders complained when I couldn't answer their questions. I was given no help. Nobody here cares about you. They will talk about you behind your back. They will yell at you. They will tell you you're great during interviews and after you're hired they'll tell you that you're incompetent, inadequate and need to do better. This is why I left. This is not a place that seeks to build their employees, it's a place where employees are stressed and they take it out on whoever isn't accepted. I wasn't accepted. The entire time I was there, I was spoken down to and made to feel like I was on the outside. They will tell you that your mental health is important but they were the primary source of my anxiety and stress. It was an abusive relationship and it felt victorious to end it. Idealistic CEO didn't want to focus on revenue saying, "If we focus on engagement, revenue will follow." Then after a quarter of low revenue, all road maps changed and sole focus became... revenue. We're all watching on the sidelines as he learns how a company works. I have reason to believe that HR lied to me during the interview process. Told me relocation to bay area was mandatory unless I took a pay cut to live in one of 6-7 other US states that were on their payroll. They told me that none of my preferred states were on their payroll. After I joined I found out there were indeed employees working in those states. Do you love Google docs? This company has more Google docs than there are atoms in the universe, and there's absolutely no organization to it. Do you want to work for a company whose mission is to get kids to sit in front of a screen more than they already do? Roblox does. Do you want to work for a company whose product looks like it was designed by Craigslist?

Pros

Decent lunches and snacks. Standing desks. Onsite gym.

Cons

Worst People Ops team I've ever worked with. Non stop gossiping, immature managers who don't know anything about technical recruiting or strategy in closing candidates. I overheard a manager speaking poorly of other companies in an effort to close a candidate and that's just not how you do it. Current People Ops management doesn't know the HR Legal realm and are extremely uneducated in Recruiting and Human Resources practices. So far, my worst job yet-I left a great company to come to Roblox and it was the worst decision I ever made. I'm currently interviewing at other companies on Roblox's dime. That's how much I can't stand the recruiting team or the company.
