Pros

Pay is decent for defense industry Technology is challenging Pride in long standing customer relationships and efforts Seem to be developing new business that means good long term job security

Cons

As others have mentioned- many non engineering departments really ruin the work experience and available budget with entitled attitudes and high pay for useless positions. Many people without even college degrees or degrees from no name institutions acting like the TSA causing a brain drain of smart people who could have enabled missions instead of just taking up space. I am not at the point of leaving yet but will if this doesn't improve and I plan to take my team with me.

Applied Signal Technology Acquired by Raytheon

Pros

It was a great company from the 80s through 2010, before being acquired by Raytheon in Feb 2011. Employees (from engineers to non-engineers) had a great sense of pride in the company, and felt appreciation by most management.

Cons

Post acquisition, Raytheon turned the employees into a bunch of numbers, and "Big Company" policies and procedures began to take it's toll on the culture. Beginning sometime in 2012 it became a very hostile environment, leaving most employees feeling undervalued.

Security Management Needs A Review

Pros

Raytheon Applied Signal Technology has an incredible engineering staff, good benefits, and insane tech.

Cons

Security Management imposes a make belief dress code on their team. There are too many managers within Security; they do not contribute and add zero value. Security Management is clueless regarding programs, their employees, and what we engineers do. The attrition rate is too high within the Security Department. They have had two awesome people leave within the past four months. The departure of these members is a loss to the company, especially to the engineering team.
