Pros

Mostly a negative environment. The ONLY positive is that they have a stocked up refrigerator in the break room and a ping pong table at one corner of the office. If endless soda supply excites you – then you can consider this place. But do read my full experience before you jump in.

Cons

1. The top three guys grew organically and so have NO experience whatsoever managing people. They have their own unique way of getting things done by intimidation. You are not allowed to think freely. You are paid only to follow instruction. If you ask questions then that is it. You get yelled at, insulted, attacked and criticized. Worse yet – all this happens IN PUBLIC meaning in meetings in front of the whole team. 2. Product domain is niche. But none of the customers are happy (if you don’t believe – I challenge you to find ONE happy customer). The reason is simple. There are so many bugs in the product. What does the management do? Blame the account managers / project managers saying this is user training issues or discuss workarounds. They are accused of miscommunication internally and with customers. No correlation whatsoever. As a result the product and customer continues to suffer. 3. Product design, roadmap, architecture, planning, engineering all is done by only one person. The reason being all others are considered stupid. Did I already say feedback is never taken? Why – because you are stupid. My entire confidence was shattered when top management attacked me saying project issues are because of my inefficiency. 4. Lack of calm in emergency situations is evident. The top management like I said before grew organically. So they never were exposed of professional situations where they had to consume/hide pressure and make big decision. They just burst out and lash out at anyone in their site. In case of emergencies they first want to put the blame on someone before even thinking of what has actually occurred. Status meetings are a nightmare as status is hardly discussed. Only mistakes are pointed out in front of everyone. 5. No formal process exists for performance or compensation evaluation. It all depends on top management’s mood that day. This is just crazy. There are many more things I hate. If you are a prospective employee – I suggest you think carefully before entering this zone. Coz once you are here you are not a free mind anymore. At one point I started to believe I am use for nothing. I am just glad I am out of this hell.

Pros

Now as a part of HID global, the rampant verbal abuse and disregard for any semblance of work-life balance might be slightly better. 3 weeks vacation is now standard, after having only 2 weeks!!! in previous years.

Cons

Utterly inept leadership, no vision for the product or company could ever be found. You will be blamed individually for the utterly broken organization, which can only produce one fire drill after the last. Showing up at the office having not answered some email which came in at 2am the previous night is considered a heinous offense. Engineering and Project Management are positioned at odds with each other. Neither respects the work of the other, so naturally finger pointing is nearly a daily occurrence. There is not even a whiff of any kind of company culture, or values other than just keep your head down and keep working.
