Pros

If you're a low performer, incompetent middle manager, or sexual harasser looking to evade accountability due to organizational chaos and managerial inattention, this is your place.

Cons

The company exists, just barely, because the founders managed to tell a convincing lie about a "Human + AI Operating System" to third-rate investors. It's a joke. Engineers are pushed to work long hours and weekends . Most of the labor is overseas, and even though many of the offshore programmers are talented, they burn out quickly because upper management treats them so poorly.

Thank you for your feedback. At Fractal, we are very proud of our diverse, global workforce and we're also very proud of our retention rate that is over 90% for our engineers. The majority of our employees are actually based at our headquarters in Reston, Virginia. However, we also have many incredibly talented engineers and other employees in various locations throughout the world (London, New York, etc.) Our goal in having a global workforce is to increase diversity and build truly global products. We are also pleased to have a strong and sophisticated investor base. We take harassment and violations of integrity of any kind very seriously and it's part of our culture to make every employee feel welcome, safe, empowered and challenged. We would encourage you to come speak with us directly (HR, your manager or anyone on the executive team) or via HR@fractalindustries.com and share your feedback. We strive to do the best we can and we are always willing to improve and change when receiving valuable feedback.

Pros

There are basically none, other than the low expectations. Because of the extensive mismanagement, you can pretty much do nothing as long as you're good at keeping up appearances. This is very much a manage-up, kick-down company. I suppose if you consider the right to make racist and sexist jokes at work an "advantage" there is that too, but I personally prefer neither to make nor hear them.

Cons

The biggest one is that the company is entirely fraudulent. They are not doing artificial intelligence, and they are barely doing cybersecurity. They claim to have capabilities, to clients and investors, that they do not have, forcing the engineers to work extremely long hours, and the only reason this company hasn't collapsed is that the founders, while utterly mediocre in actual talent, have the necessary connections to secure endless dumb-money flow. The company itself is a joke and the culture is nightmarish. People burn out rapidly and the culture of dishonesty exists at all levels. The products, to the extent that they exist, are jokes. Often, they are wrappings around long-discarded forks of open source projects. The CEO has no real vision. He just flits from one distraction to the next. As for the founders themselves, the notion that these people were once military officers, and may have been in the position to make life-and-death decisions, is utterly disgusting and shameful. I have been in the technology industry for over 20 years and the two of them are the most unethical, incompetent, arrogant people I've ever encountered.

Pros

I met some great people who also mostly work elsewhere now too

Cons

The culture is toxic. They burn through employees and hire new ones without a care about the people. They are trying to make dozens of simultaneous products with essentially a skeleton crew. Anyone who’s any good moves on pretty quickly once they realize the insanity of the place Engineers are constantly pushed to perform miracles, to make a core product work, that has been broken since they first made it. `most products are nothing more than smoke and mirrors, or proofs of concept, and the technology is usually something open source that’s being cannibalized. Amongst those who have been there a while, there is an air of resignation that things just wont improve. Entire teams have quit, or been fired. There’s no point making any plans, because the CEO will just override everyone to get what he wants, regardless of whether its realistic or what anyone wants. It is a truly miserable place to work. Best described as a “hellhole” They also tend to treat women horribly. I’m surprised they haven’t been sued for that by now. There are just so many things wrong with this place.
