Pros

Though I haven’t been with the company long, I’ve worked for enough startups to know how to spot the red flags and the ingredients for success. One of those ingredients that’s especially rare these days is a core team of dedicated, competent employees excited about the product their offering. When that attitude persists through a challenging workload and the often-frenetic pace of a rapidly growing startup, and churn rate stays low, it is even more impressive. Despite some of the other reviews knocking the CEO for poor leadership, the observation above says otherwise. Companies at this stage require employees to wear many hats, including and especially the CEO, which leaves less bandwidth for management out of necessity. If company leader(s) are willing and ready to reinvest profits into the business, which seems to be the case at Overlay, operations and project managers will be added to the team (I’m one of them) when it makes sense. I relied on this site quite a bit while searching for the right company to join, so I will be sure to update this review if my perspective changes, but so far, I’m grateful for the opportunity and am looking forward to helping the company grow.

Cons

None yet; It’s not really a “con”, but advice I’d give to any startup at this stage - don’t lose sight of the bigger picture because so much energy is required to stay on top of the day-to-day minutia. Make time to check in with & stay focused on reaching long-term goals & milestones. Work/life balance is TBD, and benefits are still being sorted out as more remote employees are added across state lines.
