Sadly the wonderful people in the company are severely held back from performing to the best of their abilities by the extremely toxic environment created by the CEO. As HR specialist I had regular meetings with multiple people on the management team and it is very clear they all feel underutilized, micromanaged, overworked and underappreciated.
When I tried to bring this issue up with the CEO, he told me literally: "Don't ever bring issues like this up with me ever again". He told me that if anyone has a problem with his management style they should talk to him one on one. The problem is, and I've experienced this myself, when talking to him one on one, he will just talk over you, push his own narrative and tell you to just "follow his lead". And that if you can't communicate like this with him you "can not work together".
While a lot of people there keep their issues with the CEO bottled up, I am not the person to do so. When I messaged him about something he did which I consider a severe breach of trust and asked him to reflect on it, he immediately made it clear through his messages that he had no intention of listening at all. When he tried to call me and I didn't answer (it was after working hours on a friday evening) he told me that if I don't call him back the same day, he would "accept my resignation". So I quit.
