Pros

Great potential to be a great company

Cons

I worked for Nuts.com for 3 years before I was let go for unknown reasons. When I asked why I was being let go, I was told that In the state of NJ there is no needed explanation for departure. Not to mention, I expressed to the company about 3 months ago that I felt as though I was mistreated and even told them that I felt discriminated against. I wrote a formal email and I also read the email aloud to my manager at the time, so that the emotion was felt. I even started to cry as I read the email aloud. My manager at the time was taken aback and told me that he needed a few days to digest what I said. You would think that someone would get back to me IMMEDIATELY, being as though if an employee feels discriminated against this should be taken extremely serious, whether it can be proven or not. I felt this way for many many reasons. Weeks later I sat down with "HR", and they told me that it could not be proven that I was discrimated against. (Not that they really cared whether it was true or not) Here's why I felt discriminated against: I worked for this company at a time when they were still growing. I watched 5 new people come in within those 3 yrs, with no Credentials or customer service experience (all of them white) and were offered new positions within months of working there. Before writing this formal email of my feelings, I even asked what requirements needed to be met to be offered elevation at Nuts.com. When I asked what they did that I didn't, this is what Andrew told me ( and I quote) 1. Initiative 2. Initiative 3. Initiative It took him weeks to get back to me and all he said to me was Initiative? No, layout or printed list of what I could actually do to grow. Not to mention that the 3 original people who started at the bottom with this company were all black, yet we were the only ones to feel left behind and mistreated. I have all of this information documented since the very first day I started to feel this way, with exact times, dates and the conversations I've had with each person I spoke with. I hate to do this because I truly believe in the company. However, they had no regards to me and totally dismissed my mistreatment here, so why exactly should I try to uphold their reputation? MORAL OF THE STORY; I AM ELATED THAT THEY LET ME GO. TO LIVE IN WORLD WHERE YOUR EXISTENCE DOES NOT MATTER AND TO HAVE TO GO WORK FOR A COMPANY WHO ALSO DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE, WAS NO PLACE FOR ME! IF YOU ARE OF COLOR, DO NOT EXPECT TO GROW HERE. AS YOU WILL HAVE TO GO THE EXTRA MILE TO EVEN BE RECOGNIZED, LET ALONE GETTING A RAISE OR PROMOTION. AS YOUR PEERS WONT HAVE TO DO

We're very concerned that you left with this impression. That's not who we are and that's not the company we're building. As a company, we do not condone any form of discrimination. It's completely against the people-first culture that we’re building. A diversity of perspectives and backgrounds is incredibly important to us. We're sorry that this wasn't a great opportunity for you and hope that you find a better fit in your next role. If there's anything we can do to help, you can always reach us at people@nuts.com.

Pros

- A lot of the people day to day are really great people (exception of leadership) - Lots of snacks - ecommerce company - Weekly lunch on Fridays

Cons

- Disgraceful tactics. They hired a new Chief Commercial Officer that is out of touch with running a successful company - Widespread layoffs to undo "mistakes" made by previous leadership, or personal vendettas against specific team members - Toxic culture that comes from a company that prides itself on "people first" - yet gave 18 employees an hour notice that they were being let go.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. While the recent changes within our organization were extremely difficult to make, they were necessary at this time. These decisions were completely impartial and impersonal, and both leadership and the People team strived to handle the situation with as much kindness and respect as possible. Our people are important to us and we always keep them in mind when making such impactful decisions.

Pros

Discounts on items and easily accessible.

Cons

This company does not value it's employees and dedication to it's company on the level that it should. It totes this family image from the beginning of the grandfather making a name for himself coming over here through Ellis Island and starting a business. Great background, great story but they do a horrible job in honoring his memory by using people. If you allow them, they will dog you and dog you, then make you feel as if you have done a horrible job while you watch others of a white complexion to next to nothing yet get promoted on a consistent basis. During my time here, I have watched everyone white come in and instantly get a position of power WHILE I TRAINED THEM IN SAID POSITION. I have watched people of a white complexion make major and costly mistakes, while minorities make a minor mistake and getting written up for it. I have watched the stereotypes of minorities thrown at them as jokes when that it completely inappropriate for the setting. I have witnessed arts and crafts being done by CSR while others work hard. I have overheard conversations of age discrimination and ultimately that person being fired, while that is totally illegal. You have to opportunities to move any forward in this company if you are starting at the bottom. If they can pay you nothing, they will continue to do so if you do not demand more. They give test and critiques without solutions on how to improve yourself because ultimately, they do not want you to improve. They want you to fail to have something to call out while others are doing worst. The upper management does not care about you and they think that bringing in a massage therapist is supposed to get rid of problems. They do not care about your life outside of work. If they can work you to death, they will.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re saddened to learn you felt you did not have a place to grow during your time with Nuts.com. It’s important that employees feel they have an equal opportunity to succeed and feel supported in developing their careers. We’re working toward fostering stronger relationships between managers and employees so these kinds of matters are better supported. We’d also like you to know that discrimination of any kind is not something we stand for. It’s something we take very seriously, in fact. Our hope is to have the opportunity to learn more about your experience. If you’d like to share further, we are here to listen at people@nuts.com.
