Pros

Fair compensation Remote work Opportunities for growth and promotions

Cons

Micromanaging from the top down, too many calls, project leads are inexperienced, nepotism runs rampant, several part time employees with unclear roles. “Creative” agency that doesn’t produce competitive or interesting work. The creative team is heavily micromanaged by inexperienced producers who act as creative directors and have bad ideas. Don’t expect to create work that you can add to your portfolio. Really unimpressive compared to what the rest of the industry is doing. No work life balance. Expect to receive pings and emails outside of working hours at inappropriate times (the middle of the night). No diversity in clients. DEI initiatives are shallow, culture and values are shallow. Very much what a wealthy white person would consider “good.” High turnover.

Pros

Competitive salary - though it won't last long as you will be fired or swiftly need to quit. Remote work - but your time and tasks will be heavily micromanaged.

Cons

Lack of a hiring strategy leads to quick hires and fires. No long term strategy for business development and growth for the agency. Extremely high turnover rate of employees. Those rewarded in the organization are the ones that follow the CEO and COO blindly. If you keep quiet and fall in line you will be elevated to a position of "leadership/power" (but your role is to implement whatever the inexperienced CEO says or be threatened by her ego). Lack of clients (they have one client they have built the business on, no diversity in client portfolio). Risk-averse when it comes to dedicating resources to seek new clients and pursue sales. Unwillingness to hear or implement outside advice from those that were (supposedly) brought in as experts. Those with proven industry experience are seen as a threat and edged out. Moonlab Productions loudly proclaims women empowerment, mental health and wellness and diversity and inclusion as company values - but this is a surface claim to attract clients and is not reflective of the company culture in any way shape or form. Employees are NOT experiencing these values at any level. Deception, bullying, scapegoating, posturing and gossip run rampant. The true definition of a toxic workplace.

Pros

Some strong clients/brands which are notable for your resume

Cons

Where do I begin? In my opinion the female CEO is a toxic narcissist. This company needs a major management overhaul. You will be hired but no one will give you any real direction or try to set you up for success. Regardless of how much experience you have you still need an employer to set clear expectations and to help guide you. There is a lot of hours here without work life balance and a tendancy to blame everyone for what comes down to poor leadership. The female founder (the owners are a couple) seems to enjoy using being a female to raise her profile but I saw the opposite of any kind of female support - felt very high school and behind the scenes unprofessional. There are some very smart people working there but I kept wondering why they stay because there are many opportunities for someone hard working and smart willing to take that kind of grueling schedule - esp in the agency world. I felt as though my blood pressure and stress were higher than at any other job and was sinking into depression with each coming day. The creative is also terrible and lacks real vision or connection to what is relevant. Because the founders refuse to second guess their positions they seem aimless in regards to who they are and what their strategy is. This is an agency that exists because of a few clients and without them they would shut down so I didn't feel particularly safe in terms of job security. This was one of the worst working experiences I've had in my career and that is saying something. Toxic.
