Pros

- Working on this content is a wonderfully rewarding and fulfilling experience. Everyday I'm having an impact and helping protect the planet's wildlife and ecosystems. - The organization is incredibly impactful given its size and resources. Unusually innovative and agile for a media non-profit -- runs more like a Silicon Valley start up - Very little bureaucracy -- I'm able to focus on the work I like to do, without spending a lot of time in meetings - I love my team. Every day I'm inspired.

Cons

- The team is dispersed around the world which is good and bad. This can make for off-hour call times for some team members, especially those in Asia, although there aren't a lot of these calls and management is very accommodating - Culture allows for a lot of flexibility and independence so you must be disciplined and self-driven

Pros

I've worked at Mongabay for a few years now and it's been an incredible experience. The newsroom staff has helped me develop as a writer and, partly as a result of their support, I've published a number of impactful stories. Mongabay is far different than the news outlet I worked in previously in that it provides a lot of flexibility. This requires me to be self-motivated and disciplined but that's a good thing.

Cons

As a totally virtual organization, I do miss the face-to-face experience. Video doesn't totally scratch that itch. Otherwise I have no complaints.
