Thank you for your comments, your feedback is appreciated. We are very sorry to have made you feel as though you didn’t have a work-life balance. We are utterly, deeply saddened to hear you felt this way. We wish you would have come to us about your sentiments while you were still an employee so that we could have done something about it and cultivated a better workplace for you, and everyone else.
We realize a healthy work-life balance is of the utmost importance and we do what we can to promote it – thus, we allow our employees to manage their own task schedule. We communicate to all new employees that they shouldn't be putting in any overtime. Despite our best efforts to combat overtime, if employees put in overtime regardless, unfortunately, that is something out of our control. But that doesn’t mean we won’t try to discourage it (see some of our action items below). Generally, if anyone is frustrated with how little time they have for their tasks, we encourage them to either approach their manager who can provide suggestions on more efficient time management or who can adjust the workload of the employee or where it’s deemed appropriate by the employee, to approach HR about their concerns. Further to this, we have a “Right to Disconnect” policy (easily accessible to all employees in our portal), which further outlines our approach to these matters.
We feel we truly make an effort to keep the team happy (e.g. individual attention paid to every employee via regular one-on-ones, regular raises, bonuses or promotions, constantly improving our benefits package, flexibility of work environment, supporting and encouraging growth of the employees, providing learning opportunities, employee appreciation events, rewards for recognition of efforts and employee feedback surveys). However, we know there’s always room for improvement and we know we can still fall short of expectations or make mistakes. We strive to do our best to correct our mistakes. With that said, here’s how we plan to address your concerns:
To address your comment about somebody being in tears after speaking with their manager, we can assure you, we certainly do not condone that style of management here at Magentrix. If anyone comes forward reporting such incidences, we would take action and ensure the involved individual(s) are disciplined appropriately.
We believe we know the individual in question that you are referring to, and we have approached them to have a discussion with them around this.
We are also communicating your concern to all managers to ensure everyone is aware of your experiences and to ensure they know causing employees undue stress is not acceptable (even though we don't know who you are so it is difficult to put your comments into their proper context).
Regarding work-life balance:
In addition to the existing employee feedback survey, we are going to be specifically asking all our employees how they feel about their tasks and managing their time. We will provide guidance and accommodations for anyone who may be unhappy with their current situation and we will reiterate to everyone that working overtime is not permitted.
Following this, we will make it a point to regularly ask employees how they feel about their workload and work-life balance.
We will send out a reminder to employees about our “Right to Disconnect” policy
Where we can, we will track and identify overtime patterns to see where we can eliminate situations that promote overtime work from employees
We will review our policy further to see where else we can strengthen our approach to eradicating overtime.
If you’d like to discuss this further with us, or would like to inform us of anything else you feel we can improve on, we would be grateful for the opportunity to hear from you. Please feel free to email me at info@magentrix.com
Sincerely,
