How to kill a cyber business - 101

Pros

Great people still hanging on in the cyber unit despite the nonsense from LRQA

Cons

Nettitude used to be a great company to work for before it got forcefully merged into LRQA. LRQA a company with no long term vision, determined to make the company numbers look great for GSAM by making as many acquisitions as possible, but not backfilling or investing in the companies they've already acquired, like Nettitude. The majority of the managers seem to be hired/promoted as they are a bunch of yes-men, scared of actually listening to the teams or voicing their opinions. I do not anticipate the cyber business to survive much longer if this continues.

Pros

Pay is decent but you have to negotiate hard. CEO seems very involved but not sure what he's like behind the scenes.

Cons

Possibly the most soulless company I’ve ever worked for. The culture is robotic – people don’t seem to understand what they do or why, they just follow orders. When leadership makes a decision, no one dares question it. If you do, you’re quickly pushed out. Challenging the status quo simply isn’t tolerated. Whenever they want to push something through, they just bring in Goldman advisers to rubber-stamp it, overruling everything else. It makes you feel like a puppet. Working there honestly felt like being in an episode of Severance. Many of the senior managers, particularly those based in the US, are condescending and disconnected.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry to hear that your time with us didn’t reflect the kind of culture we strive to build. Your feedback about feeling disconnected from purpose and unable to challenge decisions is deeply concerning, and not the environment we want for our people. We believe that a strong culture is built on trust, transparency, and open dialogue. While we acknowledge there’s always room to grow, we’re actively working to ensure every employee feels heard, valued, and empowered to contribute meaningfully. This includes reviewing how decisions are communicated and encouraging constructive challenge at all levels. We agree that our CEO, Ian Spaulding, is very involved. He is a dynamic and inspirational leader. Ian has been very clear that he and the Executive Leadership Team run the business. Goldman Sachs are great partners and advisors and they trust the ELT to do what is right for LRQA. Your advice to listen more is well taken. We’re committed to fostering a culture where people feel safe to speak up and where their voices help shape our future. Thank you again for your honesty, and we wish you all the best in your next chapter.
