Pros

Some people are nice, mostly the co-workers, but don't get to attached to them. The parties can be fun if you value social events more than other benefits. Sometimes they will fly you to another office to work there. No variety in tech (Adobe, Adobe, Adobe) stacks which I appreciated as I like routines.

Cons

Call me a curious cat but why are there some many generic 5 stars reviews here saying that Konrad's culture is great after a scathing review is posted? When I first started looking for my first job I was partly influenced by the positive reviews here but my experience was vastly different from my expectations. The pay is mediocre, there is no two ways about that, specially if you live in Toronto which has a high cost to live there. From what my co-workers on the other regions told me the same applies and is even worse in the Costa Rica and New York offices. The company also has this weird allergy to WFH, for a company that is "born digital" they sure hate working that way, the pandemic did force their hand in that regard but don't worry they are making people go back. No HR, they must be too busy lobbying to their employees to post insincere 5 stars reviews in here I guess, eh? A boorish, unimaginative leadership more preoccupied with the bottom line than their employees, there is a reason retention is awful. A "fast paced environment" which is code for overworking for the least amount of money. Awful PTO policy, you're indeed forced to take vacations for the shutdown I guess revenue must not be that good if they can't afford to add that as a benefit, speaking of which... no bonuses, shares, equity, sign up bonus or otherwise any compensation packages, they do offer a yearly "tech bonus" but it is basically nickels on a dime compared to other companies in the same space. Others have said it but yes it is kind of like fraternity, the highlight for a lot of people is going to CR to get smashed and get up to no good (general tomfoolery and naughtiness) , this coincidentally are usually your seniors because the more mature people already left for "grown-up" jobs and the rest were taken down the road to the farm during the night. Some people have mentioned how they fire people and it is true, they often send an email after hours and try hide the fact someone got fired, after that it is akin to anathema to mention what happen, expect knowing glances at most. Someone said the CR office is treated as joke and I'm inclined to agree, it feels they're mostly treated as runts expected to "ohh and ahh" at their wise, benevolent superiors. Bottom line? I would pass. My time spend here left me with frustration, rather find another place where my promotions are not tied to how much I can drink and subjected to arbitrary times. I also learned not to trust bald CTOs, I felt he treated me as a sordid, back-alley magician whenever we spoke.

A Lair Ran by Evil Geniuses (honestly it's a pretty foolproof plan)

Pros

Some of the best people I've ever met in my life. There's a part in my heart where I'll always call them family, since they've contributed so much to my personality and intellect by providing me experiences to grow as a person that I'll carry through my whole life. Their strongest quality is definitely the people they hire and how close the entire company is. They hire world class people who are some of the most talented and smartest people I'll ever interact with. The culture is also amazing (but this is a blessing and a curse, as you'll see in my cons). Easily the best office I've ever seen, with tall ceilings, wooden decor and walls, a very open space environment, lots of plants, a huge cafeteria, fun video games with multiple consoles, VR headsets, and an arsenal of board games to choose from, with monthly parties, cocktail & trivia nights, and more.

Cons

The evil but smart plan to keep cheap employees: 1. Hire people straight from school 2. Work them to the bone with horrible hours (9am-6pm with unpaid overtime, no flex hours, or work from home) 3. Never offer competitive salaries that are relevant to the industry (but offer 2 mini raises a year to overshadow this) 4. Have an amazing culture to cover up bad hours and salary, with no HR department (over 200 employees btw) 5. Wait it out to see if you stay (since you've invested so much into this company) and if you leave, they'll hire someone out of school to rinse and repeat. (5.1 Former employee writes bad review and they write a fake one to cover it up) The entire company has been screaming for relevant industry hours/pay and an HR department for years, yet nothing happens. I've seen people need better hours to take care of their children, people that need the pay to support their family and be the main provider, and a co worker harassed by another with no one to go to. All problems experienced by regular people who need regular needs.

Pros

A great place to learn the fundamentals. If you need a footing right out of school, you have access to really talented people to work on projects with. It's hard to get through the design test, and those who do get through, are worth their weight in gold. I learned a lot when I was given opportunities to do so. - Culture can be really great if you make friends. There's socials, events, an active Slack group, and universal lunch time so you're forced to sit with people. - Everyone is friendly. Everyone. - Fully stocked kitchen, free catering every Friday.

Cons

Kids leading kids. This leads to a lack of new knowledge or managers without experience. Ultimately, the kids they hire become the kids that lead. Many of your seniors or managers started their first job at KG. Mentorship and training is weak. Everyone is "figuring it out together". This is charming but is also a safety net of an answer when something doesn't work. This can be resolved by improving your own resources to hiring competent seniors within departments, with new knowledge to bring to the company. - No clear structure in career advancement. No education budgets available. No clear idea on how to advance into senior roles (usually just on the whim of the managers and your impressions on upper management). This is due to the inexperienced nature of the company. This can be resolved by hiring a proper HR department to help each department outline clear means of evolving their employees, instead of letting each department/team figure it out themselves. - No work from home, unpaid lunch, 9-5:30. If you can't handle 40hr/wk of being constantly surrounded by loud people, talking, or even the low-lit basement-like Dev area, then too bad cause that's the only place you're allowed to do work in. This can be resolved by reaching out to companies with successful social environments that implement WFH policies, and learning to understand how it works. - You are a resource and upper management will never recognize your efforts. Direct management is great and will try their best to help you grow but their hands are also tied. Prepare for the chance to be stuck on work you never signed up for because upper management planned poorly. Also be prepared to never be acknowledged by upper management. This can be resolved by having empathy. - Favoritism in projects. You have to network your way onto worthwhile projects within the company. These worthwhile projects are important because that's the only opportunity you have to learn. This can be resolved by trusting the employees you hire.
