Pros

The perks are ridiculous. Seriously.

Cons

The perks don’t make up for the lack of competitive salary. It might cost you $10 a week for lunch, but I’d rather have a better salary. A lot of the old guard haven’t worked anywhere else (despite their youth) and are super set in their ways, incredibly biased and resistant to change. Because the culture is that there’s no hierarchy there are power plays in every team, making it so stressful. Basically, the louder you and and the more ruthless you are, the more likely you are to get the better assignments and pay rises. The entire leadership is related, and on top of that, because they’re related the younger ones either pull rank and make messes and get away with it because they’re related to the CEO (causing so much tension and resentment in the teams) or they dump way more work on them, and because they’re family they can’t say no, and no one else can either. It’s pretty disgusting. This is a company that doesn’t understand company culture, has never done an unconscious bias course, and is not diverse or inclusive. They basically think that more perks will distract you from how rubbish the culture is. It’s toxic, and because they haven’t noticed yet, it’s only going to get worse.

Pros

I saw this one star review and I have to share my experience. Also to those who read this, go do your research and not just rely on these biased reviews *peace*: Let’s answer the issues, shall we? 1. Competitive salary - I think it goes both ways. If you’re unhappy with your salary then talk to your manager and ask for more? You have accepted to be employed at this company and you have agreed with all the terms. Talk talk talk not just complain and don’t own up to your end. And if you ask me, I have negotiated my salary and I got a very positive result and the whole company even got more Esop shares. I mean what?! 2. It’s a startup not corporate. I don’t know what you expect but startups work differently, mate? Perhaps you’re in the wrong place? The best ideas win. Basically startup = hustle. You’re definitely in the wrong place. 3. Family uhm… it’s a family business? Erm, what’s wrong with that? They seem to be working really well together that’s why the company is successful as it is? Also founders are basically married and their family supported them since the beginning. 4. Culture is better than my previous jobs. If you’ve seen what I’ve seen this is night and day. I feel heard, safe and confident. There’s no one in the team that I wouldn’t grab a beer with. 5. Perks - mate, why are you hating on the perks? We get free lunch that costs $20-$40 a person, drinks, snacks, free trips, free language lessons, trainings, flexible work, open door policy… I mean go read more about the company. It’s awesome. 6. Benefits? They offer it to us. EAP which I’ve used for counselling so many times plus company share (Esop) —— you don’t find all these elsewhere! 7. Diversity and inclusion - uhm the company is soooo diverse (see website and Instagram). We have been doing the survey and talk. We are literally a finalist to some diversity award. We have a prayer room, celebrates some cultural days and have language classes. Sure, there’s more that could be done but saying the team isn’t diverse and inclusive is just false news. More cons - again talk to people who actually work there *peace*

Cons

If you read this and read the bad review I think you should do a proper research and detective work. Kami has done amazing and I’m thankful for the great years! Of course there will always be bad eggs and nothing is perfect but things also change fast. Like couple people got promoted recently (not me unfortunately) but they deserve it and I’m not hiding behind the keyboard and being bitter. I’d talk to my manager and see what I can do to be like them. Kia kaha

Pros

✅ Great mix of brilliants minds who are purpose-driven, respectful and supportive. No silos or cliques. I love how we celebrate each other. Best culture I’ve been a part of! ✅ Amazing growth opportunities, with great development and up-skilling offerings. It’s impossible not to grow at Kami, you’ll have managers and leadership backing you! ✅ Very supportive, very human execs who REALLY cares and value it’s employees; their team’s professional growth, happiness + health and well-being. They are not afraid of showing appreciation and rewarding you; small and big wins. ✅ A place that is receptive to feedback, who listens to its employees. Leadership seeks critique and reminds employees they have a voice (which was a total opposite to my previous workplace who preferred if people didn’t voice their opinions) ✅ You’ll be in a rewarding role helping shape the future of education. You’re literally helping millions of teachers and students around the world! That is super special. ✅ Work-life balance is real here! You don’t wake up dreading to go to work. You wake up feeling motivated and inspired to start your day because you know what you do has a purpose, and the people you work with are just absolute rockstars who share the same values as yourself. Overall, I feel very very lucky to be part of this team! I’ve been here a few years and it’s been amazing witnessing our growth and being a part of it. This is a great workplace founded by great people with great drive to help millions around the word. In my years here I’ve sort of thought of Kami like a unicorn, it doesn’t sound real but once you meet the people and start working here you’ll understand why it’s special and rare!

Cons

I wouldn’t even classify this as a “con” — but this is not the place for people who thrive in a hyper-hierarchal corporate environment, or people who need an excessive amount of handholding. You’ll need to be keen to learn and love it (we are in the edtech business after all) — people at Kami value education and training. You will need to be agile and adaptive to change because we’re a growing company operating in an international market; you’ll be joining at a very exciting time for sure. Again, we have approachable leaders who are here to help you grow and hear you out, but if you don’t like working autonomously or need someone looking over your shoulder all the time, then this might not be the best environment for you. Hard and smart workers will thrive here. People who love to be part of the solution will thrive here!
