Icon Water has a genuinely positive and collaborative culture. The team is open, supportive, and easy to work with, which makes a big difference day-to-day. There is also a strong sense of diversity, with people from many different nationalities and backgrounds, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Flexibility is a major highlight, along with an excellent work-life balance that is consistently respected. Compensation and overall benefits are also very competitive.
Overall, it’s a great environment for professionals who value a healthy balance, good culture, and strong teamwork.
Cons
Like many organisations in this space, there is a degree of bureaucracy, and things can move slower than expected. Some processes can feel overly complex, and progress may depend on multiple layers of approval.
There can also be a slightly political environment at times, and I felt there is a tendency toward centralisation, which can limit autonomy and slow down decision-making.
- Good pay
- 15% employer contribution to superannuation
- additional leave days between Christmas and new years.
Cons
- Micromanagers and toxic work environment. - Experienced engineers are no empowered or trusted to make a decision.
- Experienced and qualified engineers will de-skill working at Icon Water.
- Project delivery team not moving in the same direction and not outcome focused (i.e. delivering projects) and are highly inefficient. Micromanagers focused on the wrong thing (i.e. re-writing a report 3-4 times and having their exact wording in the report before they sign-off on it with no ability to have your own thoughts/ opinions represented. Saw this first hand on how the micromanagers are happy to belittle you in front of others in the open plan office if you mispell one word or the grammar in the report is not perfect).
- Micromanagers discourage original thought, new ideas and different viewpoints.
- Poor processes that add red tape and a very poor document management system with no QA that is 15+ years behind the rest of the industry.
- Highly beauractic and inefficient.
