Pros

It's not every day you encounter incredible leadership. The co-founders, Ernie and Ira, plus COO, Michael, inspired a vision that people wanted to be a part of. Without them, the company simply is not what it once was. As others have said, the replacing leadership team is out-of-touch with the problems to be solved, the client's and their needs, and most noticeably, the employees. Where people once felt heard, encouraged, and inspired, leadership now operates through "my way or the highway" mentality and narrow-mindedness. A company that was once built on relationships and collaboration now fires people for having a differing opinion (dubbing it "reluctance to change"). The Homebot I knew and loved truly was an amazing place - and I was always one of the first to bleed pink and sing their praises. Homebot* (with an asterisk) is a different place. The reality is, when compared to other companies, Homebot* still has a lot of pros, the top being the people themselves (for the most part, Homebot* knows how to find and hire great talent). If you are able to separate yourself from the BS, you could be very happy. That said, this isn't the OG Homebot and, just like in the movies, the sequel is never better than the original. The positive reviews of the past, while under original leadership, heavily juice up the current rating displayed here and should not be relied upon as the current state of the union. Interesting to see the rapid decline of CEO-approval in only 3 months (previously 90%+ under Ernie, now nose-diving to 50% under the current CEO). I hope the Homebot* team is taking this seriously and providing appropriate training to the leaders who need it. Perception is reality. It would be foolish to continue to think others are the problem, instead of looking within.

Cons

An out-of-touch leadership that's in control of salaries/promotions for people they don't directly manage leaves hardworking, smart individuals deserving of more completely forgotten about. Homebot will not be successful without its people, especially the good ones, yet the people leadership is choosing to "double down on" leave little confidence they are aware of what is needed for the future of the company. If you're "old blood", it's time to start looking elsewhere. In the time I've started writing this review a few weeks ago, 3 more people have been let go.

Thank you for your review. As a former employee, we very much value and appreciate your feedback. Since our founding in 2016, we’ve placed an emphasis on making Homebot a great place to work and that continues to be our focus today. Through intentional and transparent leadership, we’ve cultivated a team of Homebotters that have a high professional capacity and a command for their skill. As you mentioned, we find and hire great people and we continue to create an environment that retains our incredible talent. While change is never easy, it’s a necessary component to a high-growth company such as ours. We will take your feedback into consideration as we move forward. Thank you once again for taking the time to leave us your review and best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

Some really talented staff, nice work environment, reasonable company values (if they were followed).

Cons

Weak management, poor communication/lack of communication, bizarre OOO calendar requirements. I was let go after being OOO sick for 5 days. I was there for about a month. They don't trust their employees, install software on the computers to track them, and were distrusting of my being sick. They were disingenuous about their processes, saying that they believe in pair programming, and that there were mentorship opportunities. Neither was evidently true in my time there. They were solely focused on deliverables and believed that pairing would hurt those so no pairing was taking place -- even when onboarding there wasn't developer time set aside to do anything to get a new hire up to speed. A couple conversations here and there, but generally it was "here's the repos, get things setup, and by the way, the READMEs are pretty sparse and not accurate". Worth noting here that I didn't blame the developers for this, this is 100% a priority thing, and if devs aren't allowed to spend time on this sort of thing, it'll be poor. They have a similar approach to legacy code and systems. After I was let go, they didn't pay me for the full pay period, as I hadn't accrued the required sick time. This may be the policy, but the whole thing was the worst employment experience in my 25 or so years of employment and I want to keep you from having to learn that for yourself. Hopefully this review will help you potentially avoid the same. Wouldn't recommend it as a healthy work environment, find it hard to believe management is trustworthy after my experience, and hope the talented people that are still there move on relatively quickly.

Pros

Co-workers and peers - the few that are left

Cons

CEO and leadership don’t have a sense of direction. “Leader” of every department doesn’t have a clue to what they’re doing. Communication (if any) - top down Training - none
