Pros

I am a tenured member of the Guild community. Five years to be exact. I have been at Guild since the very beginning, and what I will say is that our company is not perfect. Is any company? I don't say this to discourage anyone from working at Guild, but more to acknowledge the reality of any job. I imagine that most negative reviews on Glassdoor come from disgruntled former employees, but take those with a grain of salt because it's possible that their expectations were misaligned. While Guild is a rising star with many glowing headlines in the news, remember that it is still a start-up. And if you have ever worked for a start-up you know that it is not as glamorous as it may sound. Long hours, limited resources, constant change, and endless iterations of processes. If you aren't ready for that type of environment, I can assure you that Guild is not the right place for you. However, if you want a company where you leave every day knowing that the work you are doing is contributing to something extremely meaningful for the future generation, something that's never been done before, then you will likely be quite satisfied. But again, make sure your expectations are realistic. If you want kombucha on tap, I promise you the fluffy benefits are better somewhere else. This isn't your typical start-up, but the mission is powerful and that's really what makes Guild Education so special. And in my opinion, that's much better than kombucha. Does Guild have problems to solve? Absolutely. Could you contribute to making it an even better place to work? I hope so. Do you want to be a part of this growing community? That's something only you can answer. In closing, let me say this, I will soon be a former employee. Though I am not leaving Guild, I am leaving a poor manager. What I know to be true though, is that challenging leaders exist in every organization, and I also believe that those individuals will either change their behavior or soon find themselves at the door. I hold no ill will towards Guild for my manager's behavior. In fact, five years at Guild has led me to another fabulous opportunity in my career and I am grateful for all that I have learned along the way, particularly when it comes to perseverance and tenacity. I have had so many opportunities to do so many amazing things in my time at Guild. As such, I will remain a loyal member of the Guild alumni community and will forever support the mission of Guild and what we are aiming to accomplish for millions of Americans. I encourage you to do your research (as you are right now) but I also want you to know that Guild Education is still a great place to work. That's the honest truth. Cheers.

Cons

· Rapid growth with room to improve on operations and infrastructure. · Leadership turnover, lack of consistency. · Inefficient feedback loop from top of funnel to bottom of funnel teams. · Heavy emphasis on sales and launches which leads to overpromising on what we can realistically deliver.

Pros

I left a 5 star review for Guild Education a couple years ago. Much of what I was glowing about then continues to be true: - The people here at Guild are wonderful. I have made too many friends to count and have been blown away by the talent, passion, and heart of my teammates - The company and leadership work hard to do right by its employees in a number of areas, and I think leadership truly cares about us and truly cares about doings good in the world. In a number of ways, other company can learn a lot from Guild (B corp, double bottom line, mission driven, good family/child benefits, mental health time, etc). - Many students have benefited from Guild's services and it's super fun hearing about those success stories - I think in the long run, Guild has a great shot at being a successful company

Cons

As a passionate and long standing member of this community, I am writing a 2 star review because it is now clear to me that the current leadership team does not have what it takes to execute on Guild's mission to the fullest capacity. Moreover, it is also becoming apparent to me that there is some degree of entitlement/righteousness/bias amongst the inner leadership circle that prevents them from taking reviews like this seriously. In fact, my primary inspiration for writing this review was seeing two negative reviews get taken down just this morning. That said, a quick list of the major problems I see: - The inner or "OG" circle of leaders: There is a group of leaders who have been here since the beginning who continue to have all of the real power at Guild. If one of them doesn't like you (which I have seen happen for the silliest of reasons) say goodbye to your ability to get anything done. Weren't here 2 years ago? You'll never have a real seat at the table. - A couple of widely disliked leaders. Similar to the first point, there are a handful of leaders and people in positions of power who are widely disliked both personally and professionally. Doesn't matter though because Rachel (the CEO) likes them so they aren't going anywhere. - Too many thinkers, not enough doers. We don't need people with fancy degrees who can make slide decks. We need people with practical experience quickly scaling companies. Too much time is wasted on consensus and giving everyone a voice. - Hiring experienced people and ignoring them. Why even hire experienced people if they have no real decision making power and cannot effectively disagree with the current Guild consensus.

Toxic Company Culture

Pros

When I first joined Guild, I had my rose colored glasses on and drank the Guild Kool-aid. It was a breath of fresh air at first . . . the company seemed to be headed in the right direction, i.e, it is growing, employees genuinely value diversity, it is a double bottom line company, it believes in the potential of all students and wants to see all of them succeed, etc. You hear that message loud and clear when you walk in the door and I very much appreciate the energy that creates at Guild.

Cons

Frankly, something is VERY WRONG with the company culture. I think there are some big problems that Guild has to solve, including a cultural transformation. I'd summarize the issues into a few categories: 1) The "In Crowd" - There are a handful of old timers that have been around that are driving ALL of the decisions at Guild. If they don't agree, they will talk to each other and find ways to shut your ideas out. I don't even think they recognize that they are doing it, but you hear a lot of new people talk about how they feel shut out by the OG club. 2) Decision Making - if you want to feel empowered to make decisions for your team... this isn't the company for you. Decisions are made by SVPs+ and that's it. If Guild wants to grow, it has to empower every level of the organization. I worry that we have single points of failure with certain leaders all around Guild because they won't empower their people and must be part of every decision. 3) Opinions - Guild has created a culture where everyone and anyone is encouraged to give feedback to each other. At first, this sounds great, but what has ended up happening at Guild is that everyone feels they can say anything they want to people without a filter. Even the performance cycle facilitates a process where everyone can tell you anonymously what they feel about you without facts which is then repeated to you by your manager, which becomes very awkward and unproductive. It KILLS team morale vs uplifting people. 4) Expert Ideas - They want to hire experts, but they don't want their opinions. Great talent will continue to leave Guild - you have to ask yourself why so many leaders have left (or been pushed out) 5) Recognition - I've never experienced a culture where my ideas have been used without my consent and presented on without any acknowledgement.
