Pros

Met some great people...who are all gone now.

Cons

If you are looking to work at a startup, look pretty much anywhere else. This company has no sense of direction and leadership who’s leading them nowhere. You are expected to work 60+ hours a week while seriously underpaid and the few benefits offered are subpar to say the least. Regardless of your level of expertise in your field, you have no autonomy over your work or team if leadership has a temper tantrum. Company culture is to shut up and do your job because you’re lucky to be at a startup. High stress levels are mostly due to disorganized leadership, and extra hours are met with little to no professional or personal reward. This is a company you come work at when you’ve exhausted every possible opportunity to no avail. I wish you job seeker better than anything this company has to offer, even during these challenging Covid times. Side note: Employees are constantly asked to write positive reviews on Glassdoor in an effort to improve ratings.

Pros

The flytedesk team works harder than any group of people I've ever met, and they do it with all the kindness and understanding in the world. They challenge and support you in pushing yourself to do things you never thought you could do, and I've always felt heard and valued by everyone on the team. Not to mention the fact that it's rare to find a group of people who so genuinely and deeply care about a seriously noble cause: bettering college media's future (also, during election cycles, supporting democracy in the process)! And as former college media kids, they're helping make that a reality by going out of their way to ensure that both college media outlets *and* national buyers receive the best possible experience. Working for them is an unparalleled joy as they've always provided a seriously fun "start-upy" environment in which 1) there's patient guidance 2) it's easy to grow in (if you're willing to put in the work). I can't say enough positive things about this company; working for them was without a doubt the single best decision I've ever made.

Cons

I don't see this as a con, but because I think this section is required, working for a start-up is hard work. You have to be self-sufficient, a quick learner, able to power through a lot of late nights, and willing to roll with whatever is thrown at you. But the benefits are well worth it.

Pros

The product is interesting to work with, the mission is clear, and the leadership are by-and-large nice people if, perhaps, not entirely competent.

Cons

Something I noticed is that the management team seems to discover every week that running a company is hard to do. Maybe they felt that hiring quickly would offset their own workload such that they could have more relaxed roles? It does sort of seem like the CEO saw one too many episodes of Silicon Valley and felt that if he acted quirky enough, things would just work out. In either case, they stretched the balance sheet way too thin and it seems like every 3-4 months we're letting someone go.
