Not a good place to be.

Pros

Some colleagues are pleasant. Good pay.

Cons

Culture is terrible. Everyone is miserable because they are overworked. They say they are a caring company but do the opposite. Senior management come across as arrogant and aloof. Shut themselves in their little offices looking stone faced. Never want to walk around and engage with you. They expect the world. Poor project management and execution. Stay away!

Pros

Great benefits and pension plan.

Cons

This is a company that is about Perception Vs Merit! They don’t care how long you have worked for them, how you have performed only how well you are liked by Senior Leaders.

Top heavy on Senior Managers

Pros

Good people, ok benefits, ok salary

Cons

Too many senior managers. Not enough ground level employees to actually do the work that senior management dishes out. Stressful with constant change that is not well thought out and lacks clear direction.

Pros

-can get away with not doing much in a day but pretending you did -benefits are decent -some good people to work with

Cons

-if you enjoy micro-management this place is for you, mid-level manager positions are always being created -employees are not recognized for their work but by how loud they speak -flex days were removed because some higher up did not understand it and it got through to the CFO -layoffs were swift and done in a wack-a-mole fashion; employees were on edge for months not knowing if they would survive the end of the week -there are constant mandatory meetings that do not necessarily apply to your job and are therefore absolutely useless -generally no motivation is present in any of their employees to come into work -senior management does not seem to have a clue what they're doing -in additional to flex days being removed, so were the salary increases for an unknown amount of time

Pros

Lots of friendly low level employees willing to go the extra mile for most

Cons

Lots of friendly low level employees willing to go the extra mile for most wont get recognized by senior management. Key decisions that make a difference to employees arent taken into to account Company boasts a high customer focus but doesn't take note or value customers. Many unhappy employees with a grey cloud hanging over them

Pros

Interesting and varied projects. Good colleagues, company is pretty flexible on working hours, solid middle management although the Senior management team makes folks laugh (I mean cry).

Cons

The UK senior management team is sales driven, there is little concideration or understanding of project management, engineering, construction or commissining of projects, basically the Senior Management Team in the UK Power Systems business is living in the past and are completely out of touch with the current market place or industry best practices, for those working on projects (whether that be in the office or field) there is little or no direction from senior management and as a result the working enviroment has become very reactive with alot of fire fighting, this can be very stressfull for the engineers and supporting staff. It's an OK enviroment for most of the experinced engineers but not the place for a young professional or graduate looking to establish a good base of experience. There are very few company procedures or guidelines to follow so most people make it up as they go along. The procurement systems are antiquated and there is little control or aspiration to get the best deal for the company, the easiest route is always taken even it is not the most cost effective.
