Pros

The only positive about this place are the other writers, who are all absolutely lovely. There is an unspoken agreement that everyone knows how terrible a place it is to work and so it sparks a feeling of camaraderie, similar to how I imagine POWs felt in WW2.

Cons

Everything else. -Unrealistic expectations -Arrogant senior management who bully and harass staff (sometimes driven to tears) -Writers leaving in droves and quickly getting replaced through quarterly 'intakes' of graduates (who unfortunately ignore the warning signs for the sake of a job but quickly regret their decision) -Constant churn means that time is always taken up by training new staff -Dull office space with company owners showing no desire to invest in trying to make it a nicer space to work -A work from home policy seemingly based on favouritism / if you gave kids. Good luck if not. -Company owner will come into the office at random to harass staff, if you complain then you will just be told to 'toughen up' and accept it as it's 'just the way he is'. This is offset by rare moments of genuine kindness but this doesn't dampen the feeling that you've somehow entered into an abusive relationship by working there.

Pros

Free parking. On the same site as some wonderful small businesses.

Cons

I unfortunately made a difficult decision to take "voluntary" redundancy at the end of September 2020. The reason being that there wasn't enough work to justify my (part time) role alongside another part time employee (who happens to be the daughter of the owner of the company). I was advised that we were both being asked to consider voluntary redundancy, and if neither of us chose to take it, the company would decide who would go. There was an enhanced package offered for voluntary redundancy which was considerably higher than the one being given if it was forced redundancy. After receiving the news, which was a shock in itself, my partner and I decided that we couldn't risk me being made redundant and decided it was better to opt for "voluntary". I say "voluntary" as I didn't fancy my chances against the owners daughter. In the end I found out she had not opted for voluntary redundancy. Not only was this a huge blow to myself and my partner financially but also mentally. I've now (January 2021) been made aware that the company is now looking for someone, in a full time capacity, to do a job almost identical to the one I was doing. I was with the company for just over 3 years so to hear this is just another huge blow.
