Pros

Equus has an overall great cause for the why behind their mission.

Cons

Inflexible, toxic workplace environment, severe lack of training, lack of accountability and training in leadership, lack of care for employees, overworked employees, and very low retention rate. Not run effectively or efficiently in a way that actually benefits the overall contract. When you overwork people, have toxicity in leadership and office culture, and have very poor retention coupled with an unwillingness to do anything different then you negatively impact the company, goals, and people you serve. Employees do not feel heard nor supported by most of leadership and hear common phrases in the office such as "Equus is not for everyone" or "It is not Equus's job to make you happy."

Pros

Some of the Employees truly care about helping people, but that gets drowned out.

Cons

Horrible Upper Management. Terrible Benefits and Pay for this field. Employees are treated as disposable. Participants are treated as a number, not as people. They put too many unrealistic expectations on the employees to keep the money coming in, and yet after two years the only raise I got was $1, with some employees getting no raise. Upper Management is unapproachable, or they just yes you to death and then ignore anything you said. The toxicity in this place was through the rough. I feel as though I gained 5 years of my life back upon leaving. It's a shame because I love helping people, but if you have that passion, you cannot make a difference here. They will never let you. One of my participants wanted to work in medical, but they kept trying to stick her in McDonalds due to it being an easy placement. If you really need a job in a pinch, make this place an in between job til you find something else. The stress is not worth it. Everything you do could easily be done from home but they refuse to offer remote days, even if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

Pros

A great place to work if you are wanting to be promoted based on dishonesty, If you enjoy working in a fear based environment or want to receive bonuses for being a loyal servant covering for managerial corruption.

Cons

Be prepared to experience corporate abuse! This is a keep your head down and check the boxes business. They require the team of TDS’s to fulfill the contracts while the upper end takes away all their tools! What does this mean? It means Equus receives large amounts of state and federal tax dollars. The Directors, Accountants and Supervisors swindle as much as they possibly can leaving the communities with substandard services. The new hires typically chose this line of work because they are passionate about serving their community. It never takes long to realize this is a corrupt contract. The funder Northwest Oregon Works (NOW) is fully aware of the issues but continues to renew the contract with Equus instead of putting it out for bid. Our staff deserve better, our communities deserve better and the tax payers deserve better!
