Pros
I don't know if you ever saw this show on UK tv called The IT Crowd, well this jobs is a bit like that but we don't live in a dungeon and I don't consider myself a freak. While we have to deal with a lot of problems, it is rewarding to help the staff at the company. I feel like having a good IT team can improved the company in so many ways. Computers are the number one tool we now need to make business. About the company and the job I have to admit that I was a little bit hesitant. I used to work for Simon Fraser University and I thought this corporate job was going to be hell on earth. I never had good thoughts about bankers or business people. In any case, the move has improved my life. I love Vancouver and the sorrounding areas. Me and my girlfriend hike all the time and we have made lots of friends. We also had some friends that moved here a while ago. That motivated the move too. The office space is outstanding and we have access to the best tools. We have been working on some projects to improve the managements system of the company so it is really rewarding to see that the company can give you a green pass to work on something that is not really "work"
Cons
At times it can be very very busy. Stormy days mess up the internet connection, computers crash, people spill coffee...things like that. We are also in charge of some other equipment at the office that are not computers, like printers, which I hate with passion. Again, corporate world can be a bit annoying. Most people are nice but there are some unstable characters around. IT department is solid and we work well together.
Pros
It is really tough out there, that's the reality. It is hard to get your feet on the door even as an intern. Before landing an internship at Working-Capital I promised myself that I would never do another internship ever again. Well, the opportunity jumped in front of me and as a future software programmer I could not let it go. Right now I was glad I took the chance and went against my instincts because I'm actually learning as an intern and I can see the chance of me getting a job at this outstanding company. Seriously. Internships here are hard to get and there are not that many positions, only a few candidates from BCIT or UBC get them, but just a few. Anyway, what I like about their system is that you are literally hands and working with the big guys here. Of course you have to make some coffee and print stuff, but it never becomes something that takes over your whole day. I can't really talk much about anything else. Intern get free lunches and snacks as the rest of the workers, the offices look amazing with cool graffiti all over the place and, I know this sounds silly, but they have a few segways on site in case you want to take them for a ride on your break or to run errands. Most people that I've meet are cool and creative which encourages you to get better everyday and give a good impression.
Cons
If you can't handle pressure, don't even dare to apply here. You will quit after a few days.
