Pros

Flexible time off, 401K match, benefits are good. Remote first--work/life balance is good. There are some great people that work here. Despite some of the cons, people still get promoted for a job well done. Recent All Hands meetings have been more transparent, which is very much appreciated.

Cons

I'm sad to say that there are so many. I'll try to summarize the big ones. *Salary* You'll be told that salaries are in line with the market, but they are absolutely not. They'll manipulate titles to get to the lowest salary possible. This could actually be more of a Vista thing since WT is part of the Vista Equity portfolio. People are drastically underpaid, sometimes by as much as 20-25% compared to the industry. *Culture* This is an "employee experience" company, but the culture feels fake and forced at times. *Instability* The COO has run off about 5-6 directors over the last 18 months or so, countless others at lower levels, and there are several people still here who want to leave because of her as soon as they find something else (me included). Turnover is unbelievable in CS. The 2 recent CS directors were making some really positive changes, but they're gone now and I'm not so sure they really left because they wanted to. It's too coincidental that they left within a month of each other. I'd love to stay at WorkTango, but the COO is toxic, only cares about herself, and her first instinct is to get rid of people instead of nurturing and coaching up. If you are working under her, she does not give a flip about you. It is extremely stressful working for her because you never know where you stand. She accepts no responsibility for anything and makes others her scapegoat when things go wrong. People are afraid to own up to mistakes for fear of her wrath. She does not buy into learning from mistakes. If you make a mistake, she will get rid of you as soon as she can. She does not care if you remedied that mistake and improved. I've seen it happen. This is textbook leadership gone wrong. The CEO and other C-levels need to dig in and understand what is happening here. Note: the COO will probably jump on here and say something like, "we've made some intentional changes...", but the changes that are being made are not addressing the real problem, which is her. My advice: Steer clear of this place for the sake of your mental health unless some serious changes are made.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I appreciate your mention of the areas where you feel we’re doing well; we are strong believers in integrating work and life, celebrating great performance, and providing solid benefits for our employees. We’ve also worked hard to be transparent - so that everyone on the team understands where we are headed, how we are doing against our goals, and, most importantly, how each team member is a valuable contributor to our success. At WorkTango, we have made significant strides in offering market competitive salaries and are committed to continuing to make progress. As we share with our employees every year, we take the responsibility of managing merit increases seriously and utilize multiple market data benchmark tools to remain competitive on pay. We’re still a small company, however, and so we can’t always compete with larger enterprise software companies in the US or Canada. With regard to our culture, it’s a critical part of the employee experience, as you note. I am convinced that our Tangoneers have a culture of genuine respect and appreciation for one another. We are continuing to evolve our culture - maintaining core attributes of empathy and respect as we infuse an ethos of performance and continuous improvement. From the leadership perspective, as WorkTango’s CEO, I put considerable personal effort into being transparent and authentic; but of course if there are ways I can do better, I would love to sit down and discuss. My (virtual) door is always open. I also encourage you to speak with your manager or our P&C team if you have ideas for changes to our programming, either formal or informal, to give you and other Tangoneers opportunities to participate and feel a greater sense of belonging. Finally, your view of WorkTango’s COO differs greatly from mine. She is capable, committed, and cares deeply about the success of this business and of her teams. She’s an incredibly hard worker, and someone who leads by example through collaboration and professionalism. We are transforming our business this year -- and transformation and change can be hard. I’m proud of the work that all of us, including our COO, have done - and are doing - to improve our ability to serve our customers and effectively deliver the WorkTango message to prospective customers. We’re not perfect - no one is - but we have come a long way in the past two years, and the business is better for it. My door is always open to all employees, and I am happy to discuss the above or any other topics that might help us work together better and succeed as a team. Patrick Manzo, CEO
