Pros

Honestly, for what my job is, I get paid appropriately. With the right management team, it CAN be fun and enjoyable. Time off (in my experience) is typically fair and attainable and if something comes up, it can typically be worked out. Pretty good job security if you don't royally screw up--retail is not going anywhere. Wal-Mart truly does a lot for the community between giving and employment. At least one store that I've been in has been one of the largest employers after the big industry moved out.

Cons

I do so much more than my job on a daily basis. Things that 10 years ago were done by three people are put onto one now. There isn't always the right management team in place, and it can be hell. Especially if it is a group of female managers (I am female). There can be cliques and that causes favoritism for some and bias towards others. This can affect schedules, promotions, and job security. Wal-Mart CAN contribute to smaller businesses failing, although typically because said businesses WON'T adapt, not that they CAN'T.

Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
