#1: Verily is being separated from Google/Alphabet as Google's under a lot of financial strain. No more "google" benefits (shuttle, building access, etc.). **Comp is expected to decrease.**
This is NOT Google. To quote someone else's review that really hits home for me: "This isn’t “google x” or “google life sciences ” anymore despite people putting that 8 year old statement on their LinkedIns. It’s a failing startup with inexperienced and incompetent leadership. If you want to work at Google, apply to Google."
#2: Politics. Man... there's so much to do here (because we lack PMF) and because we're a startup, but it's like we've inherited the bureaucracy of a F500 so it's tough to get things done. Sure, this happens at other companies, but the hypocrisy is wild. I was sold an idea that this was a quick and nimble startup within Alphabet. Nope.
#3: Quiet layoffs. This company barely has product-market and is suffering for it. Layoffs occurred with minimal comms from management, put a bad taste in my/many of my colleagues' mouths.
To anyone considering a job here: look, if you're in a bad place, fine, a job is a job. But if you're smart enough to get this job, look elsewhere.
