Pros

Benefits Free meals while working in the office

Cons

No normal socio empathetic tone of voice in management and HR. I have experienced lies, exaggeration and hate. Lobbying of organised groups, like the LGBTQ community. This results in unqualified individuals receiving roles they are not suited for, resulting in critical errors of company processes. Company processes are overall flawed and certain critical processes are not sense making. External contractors often have extremely low quality, which ultimately affects your work, while when mentioning the quality differences, you are being called out for If you try to work pro customer focused, you have to interpret guidelines while then being called out for having broken regulations. While if you pick up the "Nay" sayer attitude, saying "No" because you can say no, you participate in damaging the company and risk being called out for this as well. As such, better stay with what you believe is right. And focus on what you and customers think of yourself and the company, and not necessarily on what "Nay" sayers, or the managers think. They will project and deflect their problems on you anyway. At which state we reach "neuro diversity". Which is a factor that is extreme present as well. You are forced to experience others mental health issues, as they are just considered "diverse" rather than insane. Not to mention when in return, while being completely emotional stable, balanced, etc. are being accused of having "abnormal" beheaviour. Imagine a group of people with mental health issues, trying to frame a very healthy and sane individual for suffering from mental health issues. <- You will be confronted with this by the management. If you are English you will also be amongst a low minority. This company is an example of exaggerated diversity and inclusion. As such TripAdvisor shows how diversity and inclusion attempts actually backfire and make things worse as they would be without them.

Pros

The people you get to work with are genuinely great, and the work-life balance remains fairly solid. In the past, the company attracted top-tier engineering talent from the most reputable tech firms, and the expectations were high but rewarding. A lot of that collaborative culture still exists among the engineers. You will be surrounded by capable individuals who want to do good work.

Cons

The company has been battered by unresolved structural issues over the last decade. The core meta-search business was crippled when Google altered its algorithms to prioritize its own travel products, effectively choking off the organic traffic Tripadvisor depended on. Combined with the impact of COVID-19, leadership tried launching new products to escape this SEO reliance, but those attempts consistently missed the mark. Now, the rapid adoption of LLMs is delivering another severe blow. Users no longer need traditional meta-search to plan travel. The core Tripadvisor product has essentially become a legacy cash cow, with the Experiences division (Viator) being the primary engine keeping the business afloat. Following the departure of the former CEO, thousands of highly skilled employees have left through attrition or ongoing restructuring. Layoffs have become a grim constant, happening once or twice a year. Even if you manage to avoid the cuts, the compensation structure is no longer competitive for the tech industry, and RSUs have virtually dried up. Because of the abysmal direction and the very high chance you won't survive the next round of looming layoffs, I strongly recommend avoiding this company as a new hire.
