Pros
The customers mostly were ok. Largely working with nice people, who are also frustrated
Cons
Toolstation only cares about opening stores & making money for the people up top. They don’t listen to or care about staff. Bullying is allowed & whistleblowers are exposed, management is laughable. No one in the higher roles knows what they are meant to be doing. Understaffed constantly, No work life balance. I signed up to do part time as I’m a full time carer, they were spreading my 20hrs across 5 days…ridiculous. Also says in the contract you’re not allowed to work anywhere else on your working days and have to be available for the working hours of the store - you don’t have set shifts, so they just want you free to work always. They lie about flexible shifts on interview, it’s different every week. You never know what you’re doing as rotas are handed out last min. The pay is crap. They put in all these extra things they expect weekly. All which only will benefit the big bosses, no bonus or extra pay for us. You’re not appreciated, they try to force ‘key holder’ roles on you for an extra 20p per hour which isn’t worth the responsibility. Their ethos is a complete lie because they don’t care about people. Store equipment doesn’t work and TS just expect staff to fix it (for free) rather than sending someone out & then have the audacity to score us on it… Stores not supplied with the equipment they need to succeed, even down to basic organisational stuff (boxes for products to be stored correctly) & nothing gets sorted. Overtime is rarely paid
