Not the company I started working for all those years ago. - Senior Store Assistant Toolstation Employee Review

Pros

The job is easy, which is good to an extent but it can become a lot of the same. I’m very fond of the team I work with, good relationships have been built there.

Cons

Company takes the wrong things into account - prioritising CCTV to discourage theft (still happens) over the wellbeing of the staff, the winter conditions being particularly brutal, and just being told to “wrap up” or “drink hot drinks” rather than installing proper heating. The lack of staff per store is a big issue as well, results in a lot of people doing full day shifts (which isn’t required or expected) which then can result in them leaving earlier on following shifts to negate the extra time they’ve done rather than them being paid for it (RM’s really don’t like people being paid more than contracted hours, even though overtime pay doesn’t exist anymore) Customer side of the job can be difficult also - people can’t seem to grasp that we’re a company very similar to Argos in how they get given codes from a catalogue and fetch the item, no one is previously trained (mostly) in any aspect of the trade, yet customers from the general public and trade side come in and expect you to know the in’s and out’s of a duck’s behind.
