Pros

Working for TELUS was awesome. It's great to see the resources of a large company. Working remotely was what we really drew me into working for TELUS.

Cons

I was promised that there was flexibility and that there would be work-life balance. During my interview process, I emphasized I wanted work-life balance as I was working at a Big 4 firm prior to landing the job. I was told that we would have to rarely work overtime. However, the team I was in (corporate finance) had some overachievers - specifically my manager worked from 5am PST and would stay online until 5pm PST. Just because they wanted to work 12 hour days, doesn't mean everyone else does. I always felt I was being pushed to do more than what was outlined in the job posting. Coming from a Big Four, they expected to wring me out like a wet towel and get as much out of me as they could (literally what my manager said one day). They kept pushing me to work to the max and at a point, it was just draining. I ended up hating the job and started to look at new jobs immediately. I would say although I had a negative experience, it just depends on which team you work with. A lot of the people I met were super helpful and very nice. I just had a manager who wanted me to work above and beyond the job description and wanted to micro-manage me. There was a lot of formality involved with the job. Very hierarchy focused and driven. At times, there were certain things you couldn't say to an SVP, but could discuss with a VP? At a point it is just childish. The game of politics doesn't really better an organization. At a point, most organizations need to understand that we are all human at the end of the day. People were getting flustered talking to higher level people in the organization all due to intimidation of their role? It's just sad. Also if a new position opened up at the company, you were discouraged to apply if you'd only been working there for a couple of months. You actually WERE NOT ALLOWED to APPLY. There was some 2 year rule. Isn't that crazy? If someone wants to move laterally within the organization, you should let them.

Pros

Work from home and create your own schedule. Paid training. There is an option for therapy through the company.

Cons

They are hiring, but there aren't enough tasks to make the minimum of 10 hours a week. There are no raises and no promotions. They take a long time to respond to emails, if they respond at all. The only benefit is a 401 (k). $14 is the pay rate, and one can only work 20 hours a week, if there are enough tasks. The past couple of exams for training set one up to fail them. I have been doing this job long enough to know this. They constantly threaten your job, which really affects morale and confidence. There used to be bonuses, but they haven't done them in a long time. There were times we were given permission to work up to 35 hours for the week, but again, it has been a long time. Last one, they didn't have enough tasks to allow for workers to get to 25+. They also offered stock options, but they ended that as well. They made a major mistake on my end and threatened me unless I complied. Eventually got an email that they were wrong, but they didn't apologize. I saw they were hiring freelancers with a maximum of 25 hours a week. I wrote to management and was told the rest of us were only staying at 20. I am currently seeking other employment. There are other companies that do the same work with higher pay and actual benefits. This was once a good job, but once Telus took over, it has been downhill. I would not recommend this company anymore. I'm starting to wonder if this isn't a sinking ship.
