Fabulous place for yes men - Team Lead Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials Employee Review

Pros

Although benefits are a little less generous than in the past, this is not exclusive to RH and they are still quite decent. I am fairly satisfied with my salary and would find it difficult to replace it elsewhere. Safety is emphasized so much it has almost gone overboard...

Cons

Embedded middle management will preach the latest management philosophy and strategy in meetings and then block every effort to actually implement said strategy, and don't dare to research the subject and actually know more than your boss (at least don't let him know you are more knowledgeable), you'll get crushed. Flattering the boss, keeping them entertained etc, the whole 'yes man' concept will get you promoted. The actual work you do is literally meaningless.

Pros

Well We are DOW Advanced Materials - but Rohm and Haas EM is a nice place to work. Being satisfied with nearly all aspects of work leaves you with a good even keel feeling. Sure it is a little difficult to worry about job security in this current economic down turn - but what job is totally secure? You do your work well and you contribute the best you can and everything else falls in line (you hope) CoWorkers are very easy going and it is easy to find help or an expert in most things you might be looking for.

Cons

During economic downturns it is difficult to stay focused. This is the case of all jobs right now - but it would be nice to get whatever cuts need to be done without the undue stress.

Pros

My division of Rohm & Haas was created when Rohm & Haas bought Rodel. They have been very fair with the salary and almost every manager I have had there has been competent and appreciative of my work. They are very good at working with you (as an individual contributor on salary) in issues with work/life/family balance.

Cons

Since we were a very small company, bought by a very large one, we miss the small company comraderie, and sometimes it is impossible to figure out exactly who are making the business decisions and how to make your voice heard. The new plant in Taiwan is a thorn in many of our sides, as we don't believe Senior management are recognizing the risks in IP that result in tapping the unethical Chinese business community, not to mention taking away US jobs.
