Pros

My personal experience working as a police officer for Northumbria Police has been a positive one. As a neurodivergent officer (ADHD) I have felt supported and understood, with adjustments in place that help me do my job well. The role suits me because it is fast-paced and always changing, which keeps me focused and motivated. The work is varied, and gives a sense of purpose, my colleagues are supportive and the working environment in the office are well equipped with what you need, fresh and adequate wellbeing space, kitchens and gym facilities.

Cons

The job can be demanding with high workloads and challenging situations. Shift work and changing priorities can make work-life balance harder at times. These pressures are part of policing and may not suit everyone.

Pros

Northumbria Police is such a large organisation is had vast opportunities for lateral development. I have served with Northumbria Police for over 25 years and loved every minute of it. I've been supported throughout those 25 + years in every roll/department that I have been part of. Your colleagues are like family creating a strong working environment.

Cons

Shift work/night shift - It's not for everyone but once you get used to it you find the benefits, such as; shopping/going to the gym on a Tuesday morning when you're the only one in there. It impacts you social/family life: You may have to work Christmas's, birthdays and anniversaries, however you do get ample annual leave to cater for these events where operational circumstances allow.
