Pros

- You learn a ton about the industry. If you can get past the learning curve, within a few years you will be an extremely well rounded scientist. - You are doing different work every day, week, and year. It is never boring. - The opportunities to move horizontally are amazing, - There are a ton of great people here. - Even if you work odd hours, management is mostly flexible and understanding to let you come in late or leave early. For the most part, if you do your job and do it well, the hours can be flexed.

Cons

- Fast paced. - Depending on your exact role, you are in a customer service position. That can be difficult at times - Odd hours, no pay for on call time. You are on call ~4-5 weeks out of the year. Calls can range between 0 to 15 hours per week depending on operations or issues that arise. - The Portsmouth location lags in benefits, compensation, and effort in employee retention compared to other pharma companies because of its location and status as the largest pharma employer in the NH area.

Pros

Compensation (for higher level associates/senior management positions)

Cons

1) Work/life balance - leaders don't honor paid time off. Many teams expect you to be available during paid time off periods 2) Benefits - employer doesn't offer employer-subsidized vision insurance 3) Holidays - employer doesn't offer MLK Day and Juneteeth as paid days off, indicating how little they value diversity, inclusion, and belonging 4) Promotions - political; not based on merit 5) Mandated 5 day return-to-office to enable "in person collaboration" while at the same time offshoring jobs to cheaper markets. 6) PTO - based on tenure, but I think Lonza prefers high turnover so they don't have to give people time off (if they even honor it in the first place - see con 1) 7) Lack of harmonization - for an established CDMO, I was surprised at the level of misalignment between sites and the lack of standardization of processes
