Solid place to work, but watch out for bureaucracy - Software Engineering Intern Lockheed Martin Employee Review

Pros

Lockheed Martin has fairly flexible hours. As long as you hit your forty hours a week for a full time employee, the distribution of hours among the days of the week doesn't really matter. They also have fairly competitive rates for interns, with the amount of compensation depending on college coursework completed. Interns get to do real work and learn about the way work is done within the company. If you work at Lockheed Martin as an intern, you will pick up new skills and tools as you go. Plus, being able to say that you work for the largest defense contractor (by revenue) is pretty cool.

Cons

Lockheed Martin utilizes outdated technologies and isn't agile and quick to adapt like younger and smaller companies. Since it has a strong connection with the military and the military isn't always good at accepting and handling change, Lockheed Martin stays backwards along with it. Needless to say, for a company of this size and age, bureaucracy plays a large factor and often gets in the way of being productive. The potential for career advancement isn't as great as I would have hoped for. Although programs for bright young employees do exist, the mobility and room to move upwards isn't really there for most.

Pros

High level of integrity throughout the company, open communications, and sincere interest in doing the right thing.

Cons

Unfortunately, I need to come up with twenty words of cons. When in reality after 41+ years in IT, I have no cons for Lockheed Martin. They are not perfect, but highly acceptable.
