If progression, a feeling of self worth and a positive and productive working environment is important to you, then avoid working at Pendragon head office.
The department is ran by (mostly) under-qualified and patronising individuals who will throw you under the bus at any given opportunity to make themselves look better. There is absolutely no budget, opportunity or any apparent desire to send staff on training courses to allow them to better their skills and keep up to date with industry trends. The marketing department is stuck in 2010 with no desire to seek new opportunities or stay ‘ahead of the game’.
If the company can spend thousands of pounds on conferences where (selected favourite) members of staff can get drunk, make fools of themselves and return to work with no real added value to their skills then surely you can budget a couple of hundred quid a pop on training courses?
No one is interested in chocolate Friday, bean bags in the office or ping pong tables if it’s not in addition to respecting and supporting staff. You'll quickly realise that those who are interested in these so called ‘perks’ are those who have no desire or ambition to excel, whilst the more competent individuals will move on to bigger and better things as they know their self worth and are specialists in their area of expertise. (Take a step back and ask yourselves why so many decent and motivated employees have left recently - they know they are capable of more).
