Pros

The company is big on growth and change so you get to be involved with some interesting work. You occasionally get to travel too.

Cons

Kathmandu paints itself as a fun, outdoorsy kind of company but it couldn't be further from the truth. The culture is completely corporate and the atmosphere in the head office is unpleasant. The pay is poor and you get treated pretty badly. Some examples from my experience: - You get told that the company can't afford to give anybody an annual pay rise (for the second year in a row) but then you see the published salaries of the executive team and see that they have gone up over 20% (again) - You are put under intense pressure and made to work long hours and weekends while your manager strolls in after 9, spends most of the day on the internet, takes a 2 hour lunch break, then leaves at 5. - You work until after 10pm so you arrive at 8.45am the next morning. Somebody from HR is waiting at the door to tell you off because you should be there at 8.30am. You explain that you were there until late the night before and they tell you it doesn't matter and that you'll get a formal warning if it happens again. - You witness a manager bullying one of their subordinates. You and several others report it to HR and nothing happens. I could go on but I'm sure you get the gist. There are some great people that work there it's just a shame that the executive team can't (or won't) foster a better culture.

Pros

Kathmandu has excellent POS systems, merchandising materials, and online training. Systems were simple and laid out cleanly. The work atmosphere was quick and busy but very rewarding and interesting.

Cons

Upper management held ridiculous store sales targets based solely on the performance of the year prior. They obviously had never worked in retail before. On the job training could be improved to better learn upselling techniques.
