Pros

I've been at HubSpot for over 4 years and there are so many things that I love about HubSpot that it's hard to count. The people that I work with are some of the best of breed - they're smart, creative, hard-working, helpful, and sincere. In many ways it's inspiring and challenging in raising the bar; it also reinforces that this is the way you should feel about the people you work alongside with (ie a team). HubSpot recruits for very particular values and has a process that is proven to work, and nurtures employees to those values to ensure they grow too. HubSpot's software has come so far in the years that I've been there, and is now a world-class technology stack. The product team that we have is incredible in liaising with people on the ground so that we have a constantly evolving and improving vehicle for customers to derive growth from. This happen - ie bugs, but they work tirelessly to do right by our customers. This ideology of "solving for the customer" is present in every being at HubSpot, and I love that. This means that we aren't selling something and leaving that person hanging, it's about ensuring that they know how to use it, apply it to their business, and learn from it so that they can own their own growth. That is really powerful stuff that makes it easy to be passionate about selling. Seeing the results that they achieve is pretty incredible too. HubSpot also let me move to being a remote employee - I am so thankful for being given that opportunity. If you propose an idea and it makes sense (quantitatively first, then qualitatively), HubSpot is willing to try just about anything. That is a really empowering feeling.

Cons

Big changes happen frequently within the sales organization and the admin is sometimes difficult to transition to. Sales team is also very political. Selling Marketing Automation isn't easy, requires a lot of work to first learn, then qualify, differentiate, and close. We find that 18months in is when reps start to hit their stride, and it's true. Inbound leads only is a thing of the past - you have to prospect outside of what you are given if you want to be successful

Thank you for four years helping HubSpot grow, and for taking the time to write this up. I love that you call out the improvements to our product in the time you've been here, and that you enjoy being a remote employee. My sense is as we grow we'll have a larger population of folks wishing to work remotely full or part time, so we are working on some key plays to effectively support that goal as we grow and would love your input. I agree we need to continue to iterate on internal communications--we've made some improvements, but it's not cranking where it needs to be just yet. Appreciate your write-up and the work you do to help HubSpot partners grow globally. Our partner channel is critical to the growth of our company, so thanks for helping them grow alongside our company! -Katie

Pros

The teams you work with are phenomenal. The knowledge combination between an internal customer facing teams, engineering product development teams, and Sales are unmatched.

Cons

Excessive use of PIPs to oust employees after multiple high revenue launches, with no explanation, actual documentation, or factual data. Reviews have been adjusted to allow for terminations post pre-approved leaves. Salaries are a joke. You are always in a cover yourself mode 24/7. Management reviews are consistently a 2 or 3 out of 5 no matter what. If a team decides you aren’t in the group, management will put you on a “unofficial” PIP without telling you, in order to surprise you at a later date. Even if they are unfounded. Beware of possibility of negative backlash post launches. They will feel the need to assign blame ( such as for timelines or issues related to bugs). Regardless of performance or level of involvement. This is an enormous company with many large paths for career advancement. But micro management is rampant, leaving little room for doing the daily expectations of your actual role. This degrades your opportunities for career advancement.
