Pros

Great wage for younger adults/kids in college/sixth form. Work isn't particularly difficult Short shifts if that's what you want

Cons

Management have no order to what they do. They almost seem like none of them want to do it, but eventually someone has to. Scheduling is a nightmare. If it isn't changed last minute then it's not available. Multiple shifts were changed on the day or the day before; With no communication or effort to notify you. The work is boring. If you show a slight ability to do one thing, you will only do that thing. They won't make the effort to change things up, then they wonder why everyone hates coming to work. Laziness was rife. Everyone knew they could get away with doing nothing, management included. As much as I was a part of it, it wasn't particularly great to see 3-4 people having random breaks for coffee or tea, managers included. By all means go have a drink, but dragging both managers and the same 2-3 people up to sit upstairs and natter for up to an hour just makes everyone else who's not doing that fed up. No real chance to progress. Unless you fancy dedicating your life to it. Going from an entry-level to a management level can take upwards of a year if you're picked, and its up to the current managers to progress you forward. Spending 12+ months to get 40 hours a week and almost identical pay to entry level isn't worthwhile. The amount of visits from Upper-management and the changes they demand is mind boggling. Multiple times in a month large sections, if not the whole lot, would be moved around for seemingly little reason. It almost seemed like the only time effort was put in was for some snobby higher up to have a slow walk round the store, give little advice and leave. The disconnect between store staff and management couldn't have been more evident.
