Pros
-Great exposure - you'll work on high impact projects even as a newer employee. Great company to get post college experience right away. -Career flexibility - multiple manufacturing sites and HQ buildings provide opportunities to move around jobs somewhat easily -Close knit employee community - as you would expect from a small town Iowa based employer
Cons
-Location - Muscatine, IA is not for everyone. It's a mid-sized Iowa town with limited things to do outside of work. Hard to keep young talent interested in staying in IA and there is a lack of career opportunity in other desirable locations throughout HNI (most are also small towns) -Lack of PTO/workplace flexibility - this may have changed a bit post COVID - but starting off at 10 days PTO and only getting a bump to 13 days after 4 years is not competitive. In person work was expected -Trial by fire - you'll get thrown into big time project to see if you sink or swim. Long hours/OT expected to get the job done -Lack of outside professional development - HNI tries to do most of their employee development internally which can be hit or miss and doesn't help with career progression to other companies
