Pros

The people I worked with were genuinely talented, extremely smart, and cared about the mission. Vacation/time off policies and leave policies were great.

Cons

Working at Guild was perhaps the most toxic work environment that I have ever experienced. The Student Operations /Coaching Teams (now called Member Operations/Engagement) was full of experienced and passionate individuals who were essentially performing call center duties. We were drawn in by Guilds incredible mission statement, then completely ignored, payed an insultingly low salary, and were scrutinized over metrics that we had no control over/made no sense. Every time someone raised a concern to management, we were never taken seriously and were told that “the mission of helping our learners should be enough motivation” as a reason not to increase pay or improve working conditions. My manager was extremely incompetent and had no idea what myself and my team members did on a daily basis, thus rendering him completely useless as a mentor or a source of help. Job duties and department goals seemingly changed weekly, and we were never given the correct tools or information to adequately help our students. The amount of turnover during my time at Guild was insane, both on an individual contributor and a management level because folks were so unhappy there. I would never recommend working at Guild to anyone.

Pros

Mission: Guild is a place to make a tangible, positive impact on the world at a time when societal challenges can feel overwhelming. The stories we hear about people whose lives have changed are so inspiring. Opportunities: Guild has gone through a lot of changes in the past few years and is continuing to transform itself. There is a lot of product innovation, a focus on improving existing processes (including a commitment to real AI use, not performative), and the chance to be part of Guild's next phase. Teammates: Guild is full of talented, passionate, hard-working people who are excited by new ideas and generous with their time. There is a near-constant buzz of ideas, insights, and lessons that employees freely share with one another because they focus on the goals and outcomes, not politics. Hybrid work: Guild encourages people in the Denver area to come to the office a few times per week, but people can choose what works best for them. Remote employees in other parts of the country can visit headquarters.

Cons

Priorities across teams: Since most teams are pretty lean, it's important to build alignment on important priorities early if you need a lot of time from someone on a project. Transformations: Changes to strategies or team structures can throw some people for a loop, but they can also be energizing for people who lean into the fact that a company at Guild's stage has to stay agile to deliver on its goals and meet customer needs.

Pros

Amazing mission and vision - brings together cool people all working towards the same goal.

Cons

A lot of shady things are happening behind the scenes - they talk a lot about transparency and clarity is kindness, but managers are way more concerned with business leaders than their team. Before I left, 10 members of our small team opened a confidential report on our manager due to unethical and inappropriate behavior. We went through a long process including talking to HR leadership and Employee relations team members. It ended in me and several others of that small group being impacted by a RIf. Our leader is still at Guild and I hear she continues to be shady and inappropriate. Honestly shows they dont truly care about their people, just about the ROI. Only a small few get considered for growth in the organization and leadership LOVES to shine on these 3% like its happening all the time. A ton of bias, a ton of favoritism.
