Pros

Brand name for you to be attracted to recruiters few years down the road (Maybe). Talk at GS is awesome if you ever get to go.

Cons

Even the recruiters are starting to realized that there are not that many smart ones left in this company and all false illusion. I honestly have no idea what people are talking about when they mention lots of smart people. 1. Finance is a dying industry so everyone is looking else where at all times. 2. Oversized tech talent in the firms are all real tech company rejects. Never gets anything done and nothing really to be proud of. 3. Goldman is no longer the best in the industry and lost its innovative touch for years. They are trying copy what others do and they are doing poor job at it. 4. My daily internal interaction involves dealing with at least one egotistic pretentious narcissist per day. 5. All of Ops roles are dependent on playing politics and pushes for no quantitative measurement on performance and advancement in career. 6. Operation has lowest compensation across all division and fake small bonuses you get does not depend on the business line you support. Basically could be pulling 12- 14 hour days regularly but it hold no weights comparing bonuses to people doing 9-5 function. Most managers will justify it as career opportunity but really - its just for them to suck every little life out of people.

Pros

The firm encourages and supports to change teams, which is helpful in expanding experience or moving away if you aren't happy with your team

Cons

The promotion has become very opaque lately. They hardly give out promotions, but make you slog and overwork the whole year in the name of it. Basically, you have worked 200% and made to look like a fool by the end of the year.
