Pros
It's pretty simple: the people here are just really, really nice, at least in engineering/QA. I really liked my coworkers and I enjoyed being around them every day. I had never been able to say that for my previous employers. They're pretty on top of trying to move their tech stack forwards and re-architecting things in better ways, so while they have some issues with somewhat unpleasant legacy code, the teams are working hard to make that a thing of the past. It never really interfered with the pleasure I took in working on the engineering problems I was assigned. There's a fair amount of leeway to write your own ticket here-- at the very least there's definitely a very clear path to becoming a very senior developer, if you wish it. If you want to take on more responsibility, nobody's going to stop you, and a lot of people will be happy to help you on your way. That said, having to stay late is a very rare thing here indeed, and the office is usually entirely empty by mid-to-late-evening. When people do *need* to stay late, it's often done in groups and pizza comes with. Super convenient location, too, right next to the L and a hop, skip, and a jump away from anything in the Loop, the Mag Mile, and downtown Chicago in general. It's funny because on my first day when I sat down at my desk, nobody said hi to me, and my immediate impression was that I made a big mistake in taking the job. But it just took a little time to acclimate and that initial impression turned out to be quite misleading. Best job I've had. By the way, unlimited vacation and flexible hours.

There's a random wall they've painted black and I really don't understand why. It depresses me. Black walls should not be a thing.
