Pros
Great brand brand recognition across the IT industry, and generally very well respected with both sell side and buy side clients.
Cons
Difficult to see why so many approve of Hall, but then he did take over from Fleischer who was challenged as a leader. It's a simple business model. Hire more sales people to sell more product to more customers. Limit the investment in the source of the product (Research) until it reaches burn out. Use forced stat ranking to continuously drive up productivity. Reward the top 10%, berate the bottom 10% and encourage everyone else to work harder next year, while awarding lower than inflation merit awards. But it is a great time to be working at Gartner, especially if you're a CEO or SVP with all that stock to sell, having seen it rise phenomenally through all the hard work of those employees awarded 2% pay rises. Middle management is nearly always recruited from within, and has little idea of how to motivate people, which are the core of this business. It's actually amazing how the company can treat people so unfairly, yet still be so successful....or will it be short lived?
